Getting cheat codes to videogames was tough. You either had to rely on your older brother or your friends from school, who would make shit up like a Mortal Kombat nude code.

I would go to the grocery stores and book stores to find the gamer magazine and cheat code books. Then either write down the codes, or I would wait until I had enough money to buy the magazine.

Haha! I used to go to a video store that had a “back room”
One time when I left I saw a mid level manager entering the place and though, I’m glad I found what I needed and left when I did (wife likes dirtier stuff than I do).
Few days went by and the manager Sandy has a lunch chat with me. Basically said what happens at the video store stays at the video store. Her Husband makes her tag along for movie shopping. I said my girlfriend (at the time) leaves it all up to me, I totally understand & agree.

We still have to give ADC map quadrants on plans for some of our work. I'd like to find the corrupt pieces of shit that made that a regulation, and beat them to death with a pick handle. GPS coordinates are universal, and if by some chance you haven't made it into the 21st century, you can go to walmart, buy a $40(about what an ADC map costs) android, and navigate anywhere in the world.

That's more than I remembered, but yea, they're expensive. They're also almost unobtanium. You used to be able to find them in a 7-11, but the rest of the world's moved on, so you pretty much have to mailorder. No idea where to buy one in person. Oh, and they changed their coordinate system over the years, so if you find an old atlas, you have to perform a conversion to get to the current iteration. All proprietary of course :^S

Looking for obscure bits of music - had to check out second-hand record/cd shops (sometimes in foriegn countries while on holiday).

Oh man music. Yeah if you like music other than what the radio plays the internet is a godsend. So many options and ways to explore at your fingertips almost anywhere in the world. And if you hear something you like you can just pull out your phone and an app can tell you the song and artist in about 5 seconds 99% of the time
