Well if you take that 10k and invest it in a mutual fund at 4.5% for the next 5 years, it could be worth 54,707. You could make an extra 4,707 dollars from investing!

Sorry, just brushing up on my finance math.
I'm pretty sure that math seriously failed somewhere along the line.

Huh?

If you continuously invest 10k per year 5 x 10k or 50,000 is your principle amount. Therefore the money you gain after 5 years at 4.5% compounded annually is 4,707 dollars. Your expected ROI is 4,707 or about 9% .

In a few months I'll (hopefully) get my first job out of university. I'm going to do my best to continue living like a student for the next ~2 years so I can save as much as possible. All I know is it's going to be hard to not splash out on myself when I finally have the means to do so.

Woohoo. $10k raise

I don't even know what to do with the extra income.

For shits and giggles take that $10k down to the seedy parts of Rio or MExico City and and start waving it around with a sign around your neck "Kidnap Me!"

You should have a great adventurous time like in that movie "Romancing the Stone":thumbsup::thumbsup:

already have 1 year emergency fund saved.

as of right now, after my monthly expenses (mortgage/utilities) i should clear $1500 a month.

Car is paid for
Bike - still owed $8800

I'm going to take a whole bunch of vacations 🙂

Congrats to the OP. 🙂

What 's a raise? I haven't seen one of those elusive creatures in a few years.

Interesting that the average US college grad and high school grad has seen a decrease in pay (after inflation) over the last decade per yahoo news. Hasn't been a good decade for "MOST" of the people in the US (ATOT excluded I'm sure).

BTW save it/ invest it, you'll be glad you did. There nothing like having enough money in the bank to to get you by for a few years if something happens to your job for peace of mind.

wow.. thats overkill for me. life's too short to hoard $.

bank enuf for 1yr worth of expenses.
SPEND the rest (assuming u max out 401k, roth, and credit card debt free)
