That's right, a 21.3 inch viewable LCD TFT flatscreen. 1600x1200, AND, it rotates 90 degrees so i get 1200x1600 :p

Oh yeah, and i also got an HP laserjet 4100 which can pump out 25 PPM's

I'm psyched. Think how much more efficient at web browsing i'll be!

ahh, yet another company trying to spend the reamainder of its 3rdQ budget. All of the managers where i work just realized how much money they have to spend in the next month or two, so they are ordering all kinds of outrageous and unneccessary stuff. i.e. shock proof laptops, extra workstations, 2 dozen or so $2-3000 laptops/Pc's (each!!), 2 dozen flat panels ranging from 17-21", ipaqs ipaqs ipaqs, blackberry rims, etc... I spent hours researching to find them better deals wher ei could have easily saved them 250k and gotten more with their money, but they just wanted it spent.

i get to set them all up of course, and then train the pampered managers how to use them. Why spend thousands of dollars on random crap the offices have no need for when you could give raises, donate, buy ergomonic furniture/gear for people who actually use pc's, have picnics/parties, TRAIN people, offer bonuses, etc...

I hate corporate america. everything is designed to revolve around a select group of egos, and they base decisions on gut feelings, color coordination, handshakes, and smells.

/rant sorry!

C'mon man, you KNOW all businesses aren't like that. Don't make matters worse. As a Business Management major, I don't agree with whoever made that move at your company and would have done one of your suggestions, like a raise AND a picnic. With door prizes. On a company (or branch/division)-wide free holiday. Maybe everyone gets a RAM upgrade in their workstations too the following week. But wasting it on Blackberries and shock-proof laptops? Blasphemy! :|

Just don't blame Corporate America for your company's troubles- 99% of corporations are very well managed. It's the bastardized 1% who spends their budgets like your example and that has been making the news in the last year.

Yea, it bothers me how some companies waste their money (especially on large coporations). Instaed of squandering the money on your equipment budget at the last minute, they really should be giving it out to everybody in the form of a bonus or something (while not being cheap-o on gear in the process). You'd think they'd be more interesting in letting the money go to more productive places or actually have someone manage the money that is half smart.

I agree, it does sound like you work for the government.

I have a manager level position and I strive daily to save money where I can, only buying to toys that I need (and not all of them that I want). I try and be as responsible as I can with the budget I'm given as it tends to make my boss (our CIO) happier and he lets me manage the bigger/better projects because he knows I wont waste our resources. Maybe I should go work for the goverment and spend some more of America's money on worthless things...

I dont want to turn this thread into a government money mis-manage rant session so I'm going to shut-up now...

Well I do work for the Federal Goverment and let me tell you there is some end of fiscal year spending, but it is nothing like that. What we splurg on is maybe replacing some of our super fast P266's with 1.2Ghz if we are lucky. We have 1 flat panel monitor in the facility and that is Air Traffic Manager. I do have a laptop that is a super fast 1Ghz but I need that to work on our remote sites. Not all of the goverment buys 5k hammers, you ever think maybe that is getting funneled somewhere else maybe? I know we could use some new things but they way our budget gets cut more and more as well as cutting staffing it is only so long before problems arise.

lol...yeah. damn you guys are too observant! It's one of several jobs i have, but definitely the most wasteful. I didn't want to say in my previous rant, but the fact that our tax dollars go towards such trivial crap is another huge part of my distaste. Most people's annual salary is spent almost on a daily basis for no purpose other then braging rights, so i get a little jaded. I realize this doesn't represent most companies, but i'm still jaded, what else can i say?
