Personally, I've never understood how a death sentence is bigger punishment than life in prison.

Maybe because I'm an athiest and non-spiritual in every which way, the thought of spending 10 or 25 years in prison, muchless life, would lead me to kill myself instead (insert joke here).

Is there anyone here that would rather choose to spend 50-60+ years rotting away in a prison cell with no possibility to get out rather than to just end it there?

Life in prison, then I would have all the time in the world to write and read, as long as they let me stay away from general pop and the ensuing "prison night life."

50-60 years is fine for me. I figure by then, I'd learn to like gaysex and I'd be getting lucky on a regular basis.

Just kill me. I'd plead guilty on the condition that they execute me. If that didn't work, I'd do something to earn the death penalty while in prison.

Death = no chance of parole... no chance of overturned conviction...

i'd rather sit in jail, and die of natural causes.. than dying and not have any chance of getting out, not seeing friends/family, etc..

Personally I would choose not to do something that put me in that kind of position. :p

Sounds nice until you actually see it. My grandma was on the brink of death for several months and it didn't look fun at all. Severe difficulty breathing - go to hospital to remove fluid from lungs - go home - can't sleep because of some other reason - go back to hospital for tests. It's horrible.
I also saw an uncle slowly die from cancer. That was really harsh. I think I'd rather be shot in the face and die in a minute rather than be in constant pain for several months.

I choose death.

I'd take death. I hate TV, I hate lifting weights, and there aren't too many sports I like playing. That leaves radio, and books for amusement. I could probably deal with that, but I'd be surrounded by idiots, and I hate idiots too.

I think all the people saying they'd rather die are severely underestimating their own survival instincts. If thrust into that situation, I'd wager the vast majority of people would opt for life over death.

this.

If I had a life sentence (or deat sentence) I would start looking for options to break out from day 1. I mean you can't get punished any more either way. ;) (Shawshank redemption)
It's actually a known thing that a "not so secure looking prison" is very good for morale of the prisoners because they think the can escape if they would try a bit.

So i choose live.

Nope

Prison Suicide Prevention

From the World Health Organiztion

Suicide is often the single most common cause of death in correctional settings

Killing yourself in prison is statistically more likely than being murdered in prison. The suicide rate in prison is more than 10x higher than the suicide rate outside of prison.

Over in Britain, it's the prison guards that kill themselves :awe:

prison is somthing you can escape from

If you're in for life, you're not escaping anything. It isn't the 19th century anymore. Modern max security prisons are virtually escape proof. The chance to get out may come up infrequently, but it's on the same scale as winning lotto.
