Life in Montreal, Canada.

Turkish

So I may have a job lined up with ReMAX in Montreal, Canada. Tell me about it... as much as you can 🙂 I don't know French but I don't think it's going to take that long to learn... how's the cost of living, general lifestyle, etc.

I've been twice. It is an amazing city with a very European feel. I know that is probably the most cliche thing anyone says about Montreal but it's true. Lots of old world charm and intrigue (on a roll now). As far as general lifestyle I would have to say very laid back attitudes. It is a very diverse community as well so you get lifestyles from all ends of the spectrum. Honestly if I had to pick a city to move to, Montreal would be right up there, as well as Calgary and Edmonton. Plus, you'd be CANADIAN!! 😛 yeah! *ducks and dons flame-retardant suit*

I heard that I just need to work there for 5 years to get Canadian citizenship? Pretty cool...

Do you know anything about the cost of living? Thanks for the info so far 🙂

Quebec is considered the snotty part of Canada, and for good reason. A lot of them really resent english people and, though most of them know english, may look down on you for speaking it.

Of course, fvck them. I'd go anyway, because it is nice, and you absolutely do not need to learn french to do fine there. Like I said, most people know english anyway, and if they give you a snotty look just tell them to buggar off!

Most stereotypes are overrated anyway. In short, it's a nice place and you don't need to learn french if you don't want to.

I there.I am living in Montreal.Exactly in Verdun (i really dont recommand you to come in Verdun, unless u want cheap rent..but crazy neiberhood hihi )

What it cost me to live there? Ok well here is a little resume of my ficancial spending per month.(all in CAN funds)

RENT: $405(Verdun is cheap, go in downtown, Hochelaga( east of montreal) and it can go up to $800 a rent
Electricity bill : ($72-$92)
Phone bill : ($28)
Internet Bill: (Using sympatico dsl unlimited download, 1 year contract, free modem rental , $30 )
Television bill( Using Illico, digital cable( i hate sattelite) it cost me $55 around

So thats about it, it cost me around $640 alone to live in an apartment and have normal spending.

Whats cool in Montreal? Well me i like downtown, to go to Paramount theater, restaurent there are also nice.LOTS of nice chicks in Montreal i can garantee you that!!!

I like montreal, but me having the choice i would move to outside of montreal, cause montreal is a very busy-noise city.

Youll love montreal i think. Its WAYYYY better than toronto hihi 🙂 ( But not as cool as NY 🙁 )

Just out of curiousity what will your job be with ReMAX? I talk to a lot of ReMax offices for supporting MLS products our company provides. None in Montreal, but just curious...

It's full of French men don't go. 😉

I use to live in Montreal. Great city with lots to do. I got by with very limited French. Many nice places to settle down. Still the cheapest place to live out of the big cities in Canada (Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver).

Montreal is a great city, you'll love it here. Working for Remax means that you're going to sell houses, you need to learn French. You're going to have many French costumers who don't want to speak English, so it's better to know both languages. Looking at your profile I believe you're Italian right? The Italian community is the largest one, well after the French and the English so you'll be fine. 🙂

Indeed... Montreal is where I learned that "vendor conference" is French for drink, eat and watch lesbians on stage.

😀

Let me get this straight... you are a successful self employed business man who wants to move to work for someone else. You must be crazy.

Montreal is a fine place to live.
Its cheap and its lively. But god the traffic is bad ! If you plan to go there, try to be near a metro station, they are life savers !
Oh, and they have awesome japanese food.

The drivers in Montreal are without a doubt, the worst drivers in Canada. I'll give Montreal props for having a ton of beautiful young women, great restaurants, awesome peeler bars, but the layout of their freeway/road system is terrible. Very easy to get lost there if you are not familiar.

Have you ever been to Richmond BC? 😉

Yup, many times. That's a completely different topic, and I don't want this to turn into a race thread.

True, the roads are in horrid shape and the drivers are far too aggressive.

Hehe. I have a friend in South Vancouver that swears that Chinese drivers are the worst. I take his word for it, being that his last name is Mah. 😉 😀
