I would have fired him to. He made himself and his company liable in ways they were never supposed to be legally liable. Who knows what would have happened had the dude died while he was trying to rescue him. I can tell you one thing though, it would have been a shit storm and they probably would have been sued. All because someone was doing the "right thing".

For $8.50 you can work at some other shithole that doesn't tell you to let others die. Get his temp job back? Bitch please.

Yet another situation where bureaucracy has done harm. Imagine if he had followed the rules, some one would be dead at the cost of some stupid liability bureaucracy bullshit. He did the right thing and I applaud him for that.

this reminds me of those best buy "loss prevention" guys who stopped some guy from robbing the store and got fired.

According to NBC Nightly News, they offered him his job back and he basically said "No thanks"

Good for him, fuck that company

I understand it's against the rules, the liability aspect and that signs are clearly posted saying swim outside the designated area at your own risk. But what was the lifeguard supposed to do? Watch a man drown? No way man, no way.

2 quit with him and do not want their jobs back either.

Cool, so the company is hiring 7 that will swear to uphold their policy of standing by and watching people drown on the other side of the line in the sand.

Can't wait for that next news story.

Now that it has been brought to light their should be plenty of youtube uploads of lifeguards watching people drown.

America, Fuck yeah baby

You bet your ass :D Those 7 that will get hired will tow the company line. Now the next time someone is drowning in the non designated area will be shit out of luck.

Now go and read about the Milgram Experiment.

So what all does this policy cover? :hmm:
Does someone have to be entirely in the permitted drowning area? What if they start having trouble while inside the boundaries, but then when they start flailing, they drift outside it?
Can a lifeguard save himself some time by dragging someone to outside the boundary so they can die, leaving him to enjoy a pleasant and liability-free swim back to shore?

"You give me that jur-is-my-dick-tion crap, you can cram it up your ass."
