They've done a lot of studies on rats and for rats, it seems true that low fat diets are best for longevity. And there's a lot of evidence that the same is true for humans, as long as you don't cut out all of your fat.
There is a huge difference between no fat, low fat, and a regular person's diet. You seem to imply low fat = no fat. You need ~30% of your calories from fat. That is low compared to most diets now.Originally posted by: Legend

Your body needs omega 3 and omega 6 fats for optimal health. Brain, hormones, heart, cholesterol levels, cell membranes, skin, eyes, etc.
I eat tons of olive oil, fish oil, and nuts, and I have excellent body weight, cholesterol (both LDL and HDL), and blood pressure.
A diet deficient in fat and high in unhealthy carbs will increase cholesterol, body fat, etc.
