LIDS - Linux Intrusion Detection System

i did a search for LIDS but couldnt find much on the forums...

does anyone use this to secure their linux box?

i have upgraded my kernel to 2.4.18 (the latest), however, the latest version that LIDS allows is 2.4.16.

basically, you compile LIDS with the kernel, similar to patching the kernel, and thereafter, you can run LIDS administrative tools to check whether your system has been compromised.

i havent gotten this to run on my computers yet, but i was wondering whether there is a version for the latest kernel?

thanks

LIDS was recommended to me by atleast one person. I havent gotten a chance to use it because the linux system I was using was more for a desktop than a server and this would probably get annoying on a desktop. I dont know about the latest kernel though, I dont update all that often anyhow 😉

Why do you say that?
