Lidl sucks. Then again Aldi sucks as well.

That said I dont know how badly your average American supermarket sucks so I dont have a baseline.

Are you kidding me?

Aldi and Lidl are amazing.

Even more so if you only live in a pokey Welsh town that is in the death grip of Tesco.

Lidl or Aldi are great if you dont mind woefully limited product lines and then having to do another supermarket shop after doing your first supermarket shop.

But great for well priced, good quality fresh fruit and vegetables, meat and dairy products. Periodic amazing deals on surprising products and a good selection of beer and frozen food...

But then again, we CAN do our full weeks shopping at Aldi.

I'm fine with that, and that's exactly how I use Aldi. I go grocery shopping every two weeks. First time is ghetto shopping, where I hit BigLots(closeout store), the thrift shop, and Aldi. The next time I go to Wegmans( a premium grocery store).

Thats fine but why bother with Aldi at all in that situation? If you're going to trawl around anyway its not like they are either the best or the cheapest.

Don't think so. Might be different when you get it in the states though.

We're on a tech site.

We like price vs performance right?

They might not be the cheapest.

They might not be the best.

But they are the best for the price. At least in my personal opinion.

You got some kinda vendetta against them or something? Wyt ti'n ddim yn hapus?

You'll get (or should get if you dont live in a shitty town) better and cheaper fruit and veg at the market. They do have good deals on random things but you cant really plan your shopping around whether some random German beer is on offer or not. (And anyway its probably going to be cheaper at Tesco)

Yup.

Me? Not really when I'm buying food. Otherwise I'd live on pasta and ground horse.

So they are a bit Meh? Which is what I was saying.

I just think that they are a bit shit. Is it them or Aldi that doesnt take credit cards because their customers are too dodgy?

I'm happy as long as I dont have to shop there with their stupid short packing areas.

The more the merrier. I like Aldi and Trader Joe's. So if Lidi is similar, chances are I will like the store. I don't mind if stores have limited selection as long as the quality is good and prices are cheap. Aldi and Trader Joe's are only supplemental stores for me. I go there to pickup some of my favorite items and then go across the street to Publix to buy something else. I do bulk of my grocery shopping at Costco.

I don't know about Europe but Aldi in the US takes credit cards. They didn't when they first opened but caved to the pressure. Prices went up because of it but it's still cheap. Aldi is great for cheap can pantry type stuff and meat and veggie prices are not bad at all.

And maybe Aldi and Lidl suck there because they're competing against shitty stores and can afford to suck. Here the marketplace is more competitive and if you suck you're probably going to struggle.

Well they suck when I've been to them in mainland Europe as well. Now its possible that they have transformed their business approach crossing the Atlantic but I'm going with they still suck but you dont know any better.

Pretty much every supermarket chain here delivers so I get all the cans and packaged stuff delivered.

I don't care about delivery. I care about the value/price. Aldi is pretty darn cheap for canned and pantry/baking/cooking items. Even Walmart prices can't compare. I can't see delivery stuff being cheaper. Amazon pantry in the US is not even in the ballpark as Aldi in price.

I can live with paying a penny more on a can of tomatoes if I don't have to go to another store to get the other stuff I want.

Delivery stuff here is from the same supermarket you'd be buying your stuff from anyway.
