Your dad might actually be fired these days because I think cutting power to unused tools is part of regulations in some areas now.

Oh I'm sure it's part of regulations. Just like 'stilts' aren't allowed (and weren't at that time 20 years ago), but they used those as long as the inspector wasn't around.

I don't remember about cakes with eggs but I've always been scare-monged with salmonella so unless the eggs are fresh I don't eat them raw.

I thought everyone did this, but a few days ago I was making a cake and offered to let my friend lick the batter, but he thought it was weird. What a freak.

You probably inadvertently touched yourself to the fantasy of watching your friend lick it clean and he got creeped out.

when I was a kid we got to lick the beaters. There was no problem with raw eggs then and, "salmonella" was not a household word.
