A friend of mine has a 23 year-old girlfriend with no license. I really think he should break up with her. Him having to drive her everywhere is even annoying ME, now.

21, no car, no license

I don't want to deal with the cost of owning one, especially insurance. I also don't need one at college and have always managed quite well without one.

Here in BC, your clean driving insurance discount is based on how long you've had your license, not insurance. So I got my license renewed in BC as soon as I moved to Whistler, despite knowing that I wouldn't be driving for ~5 years. That way when I did buy my car, I got a nice discount for not having had an accident in 5 years. The fact that I hadn't been driving either didn't seem to bother ICBC...

I'm 14--in California I cannot get a learner's permit until I am 15 1/2. I will inherit either a 1998 Buick Regal (V6, but it's the non-supercharged) or a 2002 Dodge Neon.

Don't settle for a used car! Demand a new one.

this is why.
I got my license when i was 16. I got my own car last year when I was 20. I got a better rate for my insurance because of that. even better rate after you turned 21. ;)

I had my permit for about two years before I bought my car. I owned my car before I had a full license..

I had a roomate who is in his 40's who has a license but does not drive. He either pedals or takes the bus. The funny part is, last I knew, he works for the DMV.

An uncle of mine lives in Manhattan. Not a bad part or anything but cars always end up getting stolen. After their last car got stolen they just stopped owning one and only rent one when they want to go somewhere.

If you want to rent a car, you have to have a drivers license and a credit car.

You can't leave home without them, if your going to rent a car.

Over 49 is not old, maybe over 79 is old?
But it is all relative anyway.

ROFL, I'm extremely lucky to get a used car this new for very little cash, if any. I don't live in a ZIP like 90210 or even 93720 (not that I'd care to), so a new car is simply out of the question. Besides, the Buick isn't a bad car, even if it is for old people.

If somehow I get a rich windfall, then maybe I'd consider getting something nicer, but a car's a car at this point, really.

I have license and an insure car; however I haven't driven it for 5 months, because it is better to get around on a bicycle (the GF car is what we use to get groceries).

i live in the city, half block from a grocery store and major bus line. why the hell would i need a car? to drive to the suburbs?

edit: it takes me 15 min. to drive to work, 20min to ride the bus, and 13 min to ride my bike! i save time and get in shape, though i usually tac on an extra 5 mins for a change of clothes and some deodorant when i get to work.

Yes it is, however you will learn to cope with out a car. I had a car in college, however it was too expensive to park therefore I didn't drive it much. And, I most of the the time use my backpack to lug the groceries.
