dear Community 🤩

just want to share this good news with you.

Libreoffice is working on a new release: LibreOffice 25.8 is coming soon.

LibreOffice 25.8 is coming: The free office suite will bring numerous improvements and new features for Writer, Calc, Impress, Draw, and other updates. Among the most important updates are the integration of additional PDF 2.0 features, such as AES-256 encryption, support for PDF/A-4, and the ability to export documents as PDF 2.0.

I'm slightly puzzled by LibreOffice 24/25 auto-updating itself despite me doing a custom install and unticking the update component.

I think I'll do a trawl through the configuration options to find another "don't auto update" setting.

interesting - well i have to think about the behaviour of the libreoffice - if the sw did the same here too.

If you do an install of say LibreOffice 7.x on Windows, the only 'update' functionality is a notification in the top-right corner to say there's an update to download, which IIRC if triggered will just download the standard LO install exe.

However, if you do an install of LO 24.x on Windows, the first time you start it will take ages longer than LO7 to first-start (on a reasonably fast and modern machine it can take about a minute), then check the version number and it's on the latest version.

In Tools > Options there's an update section with which the functionality can be switched off, but I have to say there's some special logic being used whereby it auto-updates before one gets the chance to change that option; what if a PC crashes every time on the latest version? Maybe starting LO in safe mode will stop the auto-update from happening, but I feel that this could been made a lot easier with a prompt to update rather than it being done completely automatically. It's rather like the absurd idea in >Win8 of getting rid of the F8 early startup menu because HOODOLLALLY: a boot time saving of 2 seconds!

it might not be the best place to say this, but there is a problem in romanian language module, somehow it has hungarian grammar check installed which is both wrong and a political problem if you know Eastern Europe politics.

It's probably worth your while doing some searching of the bug database to see if it's already been reported:
