No they aren't. Both libertarians and greens are socially liberal.

I'll have to politely disagree with you on that I've been pretty much a social conservative most of my adult life and as stated above have been drawn toward Libertarians that whole time. Republicans seem to be much more drawn to the Libertarians than liberals.
I think the difference is that whether you are a social conservative or socially liberal, you are a libertarian if you do not believe in using the government to stuff your beliefs down peoples throats. This is a real problem with the left in this day and age.

Yep, I'm 18 and registered libertarian. I found out about this party when I realized I couldn't stand the republicans or the democrats. So I'm here now.

My friends dad has been voting libertarian since the 80's.

The Greens may be socially liberal, but the Libertarian Party is far from it.

I disagree with some of the more extreme proposals ( complete privatization of public services, et cetera), so I would characterize myself as a "soft" libertarian. .

Pardon? If self-interest is your thing, you need only look to the big two poli parties. Their only goals are to maintain the status quo, establish their power base, and grow the government. Look at their actions and not their promises.

Libertarians want to put the power of choice back into the hands of the people. How on earth is that equate to "self-interest much"?
