Libertarianism in support of Communism

Where did you see an argument for selfishness? I only saw a warning about the futility of charity that does not address the underlying issues, the hypocrisy of taking with one hand and the giving with the other.

Seen the RSA on Zizek before, some really good counter-intuitive ideas.

RSA itself has a lot of thought-provoking stuff from emeritus lecturers. These ones don't seem relevant just reading the title, but they're definitely relevant for the crowd on this forum.

Dan Pink - Home & Workplace motivation

Barbara Ehrenreich - Pitfalls of Positive Thinking

Philip Zimbardo - Secret Powers of Time

I enjoyed Zizek's argument for the virtue of selfishness as support for the communist philosophy: buying "fair tirade/organic" and so on has become the new opiate of the masses.

You enjoyed it?
He said you are coming to the Zero point in capitalism!
Soon everything will be negative for you economically, gee that's enjoyable!
I think what Ziz is liking here is the result after the capitalist collapse, a communist world based more purely around Marxist philosophy, instead of the 20th century attempts..............
Teach a man to fish and make sure there are fish to catch!

Libertarianism and Communism are polar opposites, there is no common ground between them by definition. The most basic premise of libertarianism is the sanctity of private property and individualism. The most basic premise of communism is the sacrifice of the individual for the common good.

The only sense in which libertarianism has common ground with communism is the progressive corruption of the word to mean, instead of freedom for self; freedom from responsibility. I.e., the 'freedom' to be a parasite at the expensive of others.

Thus why his argument is so interesting.

Libertarianism and Capitalism (chattel slavery) are polar opposites, there is no common ground between them by definition. The most basic premise of libertarianism is the sanctity of individualism and democracy

Fixed, Capitalist Libertarianism is a 20th century perversion of Libertarianism, mostly foisted on society by ayn rand fanbois.
This is why there is no right-wing Libertarian movement, it is nothing but more of the same social darwinsim and not even realistic enough to gain ground like other perversions in the 20th century (Leninism for example) most 12 year olds understand why Capitalist libertarianism is inherently flawed, but people are stuck on stupid though. Mostly their own fault for buying into the establishments capitalist propaganda fed to us endlessly by corporate media.

Don't fall for false revolutions, the whole capitalists co-opting the name of libertarianism is akin to hitler using national "socialism" its disgusting and inherently misleading title to fool useful idiots. The right-wing is pretty bad at irony, that is unless it is used spitefully.

The left would do well to take the name Libertarianism back, let the cappies find a new name. "Corporate dystopian bringers" or just good old fashioned plain "class traitor" always works. Moron, Neanderthal, sociopath or even "Republican" work too.

That utter nonsense was and still is the argument of the elite
to prevent the masses to find some advantages in socialisms,
because what is really sacrificed in such systems is the bourgeois
power and grip on the society.

This very same bourgeois power that is sacrificizing the average
people s life to fed its own continual needs to rule the society
for its own benefit...

btw I loved his nature doesn't exist video. rings home with certain things i believe/think about as well.

you know the bourgeois of 100 years ago don't exist any more, there isn't some perpetual people being bourgeois. damn near ANYONE can be a bourgeois it just seems so many are bitter about not being lucky enough to be born one. sucks for us huh? good thing there are methods in certain places in the world which one can apply to reach that status. hey i happen to live in one of those places!! things are fucked, but this drivel is just that, drivel.

Contrary to your sayings , i m not complaining that i m not born
as a king s child...🙂

The bourgeois power is stronger than ever in fact , and it s likely
that it benefit me at some point.

Not that i can enslave people around me , since i live in europe
and that i m an average joe in respect of my environment , but
for sure i have invisible slaves somewhere in the third world
that are manufacturing goods that i buy for the cheap while
my own production is sold to them at hefty price , to say it
short , trading one hour of my work for ten hours of their work...

That is , basically , the essence of capitalist based enrichment.

Good speaker, but didn't say anything that wasn't already incredibly evident. Still, it was a fun video to watch.
