First, have you guys noticed that the Republicans on this forum all have the American Flag as their icon. Why is that? Is it because you guys think that your the true Americans while we liberals are commies?

It's funny that I brought up the liberals are commies issue because my supervisor told me that liberals sound like their anit-American commies. Do we really sound like we hate America?

Some of you, yes.

I just think many liberals have their priorities screwed up. Leaving out an unspecified god(s), which a belief in for some reason disgusts many liberals, here would be my list of priorities, in decreasing order:

1) My direct family
2) My indirect family and friends
3) My community and co-workers
4) My larger community (i.e. my state/region)
5) My nation
6) The rest of the world

So to answer your question, since we are at a time of war, that is why I fly a flag as my icon. That's because I hold my nation higher in a list of priorities than the rest of the world.

Just as my family can do me a lot of wrong (and vice versa), I won't stop loving it and making it my top priority. I would no sooner put my friends before my wife and children, as I would put the rest of the world before my nation.

Not "all" the Republicans on this forum have the flag as an icon.

First off - I love this country.
Second - I love the Flag and what it represents.
Third - I will display the Flag with respect any where I choose and find the questioning about the avatars almost offensive.(IMO;))
Fourth - does the display of the Flag offend you?

Liberals are communists, Republicand are socialists, and we aren't solving a damn thing talking about it. No, I don't believe that. I think that some people confuse love of the government for love of the country.

We can argue over semantics all day and not solve anything.

Personally, I find anyone who follows any political ideology blindly as a very unpatriotic American. However, the conspiracy theorists, whom I tend to object to and many tend to lambast, are a whole different issue. Unfortunately, the conspiracy theorists often get tagged as a liberal, hurting those who really are one. I mean, a liberal, by defination, is someone who is for reform and progress. By that definition, is liberal such a bad thing? Yet, put in the wrong hands(ie: Al Franken and co.), the idea of liberal is twisted and perverted to make it seem like the epitome of evil.

Then again, look at the conservatives currently with the biggest mouths. How conservative are they? I mean, many follow the current adminstration and defend it on a regular basis, yet ignore or even seem to support deficits, nation building and increased government intervention in society(ie: social engineering). If you really are true red, white and blue conservative American; shouldn't you be trying to nominate someone else?

Couldn't have said it any better if I tried.

Many liberals really do come off sounding like they hate America.

Here is my view on the biggest difference between liberals and conservatives:
Liberals are finger pointers. They have loud mouths and feel the need to assign blame to every event, no matter how insignificant. They recognize problems, then spend their days complaining about how someone should do something about it.

Conservatives sit in the shadows and take what is dished out. They watch as the liberals point the finger at them and take that time to try to get something done. When something goes wrong, they watch as the liberals point the finger. Repeat. Conservatives are normally quiet and more logical. Rather than sitting around complaining about something, they will try to do something about it. However, often they will not think it through all the way and cause problems because they don't look before they leap.

So in summary, Liberals sit around complaining and do nothing. Conservatives are quick to action trying to fix stuff, but often cause more problems than they started with.

It's because liberals strive to make society a better place and the point out where society has faults, while republican points out how good the society is and tends to ignore the bad things. So liberals sounds like sour pessimist while republicans sound like naive optimists. :D

I guess we're not so different after all considering those are my priorities in the exact order.

I certainly don't speak for all liberals, but I do not love any other country more than mine. I just don't feel the need to constantly "prove" my patriotism to myself or others. That's one reason I do not fly the flag here at AT.

Secondly, even though we are at war, I personally feel it is a false war, sold on deception and lies. I would never fly our flag in support of the war in Iraq.

Thirdly, and I'm not sure if this is a liberal "trait" or not, but I value individualism over group think mentality. I wonder how many around here (and around the country in their front yards) flew the flag prior to 9/11? Not many . . . not many indeed.

What does this have to do with anything? I want to know how many of them have voted for politicians who have not enacted statist policies. Where were all the so called conservatives in Congress when Bush passed a budget that racks up over $400 billion in debt?? Bush cut taxes a few percent, and that's called conservatism? Nevermind the fact that the government still taxes away over 30% of the economy and the tax code is so large its compliance cost is a 15% tax on the tax they are already paying.

I think alot of you so called conservatives need to re-think who you are voting for because from where I'm standing there's not much difference between the conservatives in office right now and the so called communist liberals.

Is it a requirement to serve in the military to love one's country? Is that a requirement to respectfully display the flag?

exactly...I didn't think so. Now run along.

Take out the word naive and you've got it pretty close to right. It is better to focus on the good in the world. The only thing you haven't accounted for is the gross ignorance involved in both sides.
