Kirsten Powers: Liberals Shun Opposing Views Because They're Used to Controlling the Media

A ray of hope on a cold, cold day. Kirsten Powers is starting to see the light. We'll convert them painstakingly one by one if need be. Click link for full transcript.

POWERS, DAILY BEAST: You know, I have to say this actually jibes with sort of real life experience that I have found, especially as I came into more contact with conservatives as I got older because I used to really live very much in a Democratic bubble when I worked in politics. I did find that they were much more open to sort of hearing other viewpoints, where I think liberals because they are so used to controlling all the media pretty much, academia, that for them when they hear things that don't jibe with what they want to hear, it's very disconcerting and unsettling to them. And it doesn't surprise me that they’re really less interested, whereas conservatives are kind of used to it. They’ve lived in a world where pretty much, you know, the whole media has been sort of liberal.

O’REILLY: So they’re used to the joust more than the liberals are?

POWERS: Yeah, I think they don’t, they just have a sort of, they just sort of expect it, where the liberals are sort of taken aback because they feel like, “What are you talking about? Everybody knows that what I think is right and nobody thinks differently.”
Growing up in a liberal part of the country and in a perilously left-leaning household, this very much rings true to me.

It seems that so much of what liberals see and read in the media today totally supports their view of the world thereby making it inconceivable to them that they could possibly be wrong.

Just this week I got into an email argument with a childhood friend of mine - someone I've known since kindergarten - who claimed emphatically that Ronald Reagan and George W. Bush each created more federal debt than Obama.

When I pointed out the actual statistics supplying a link to the Treasury's website for confirmation, he refused to believe what he was seeing and changed the subject.

What's become clear of late is the liberal media's propaganda machine is so strong it's impossible for some in our nation to accept the truth.

Even worse, when they're confronted with facts, they strike out demanding the conversation end immediately threatening to dissolve the relationship if it doesn't.

Scary stuff when you think about it.

Mass shootings are caused by the proliferation of high capacity semi-automatic weapons. That is all you need to know.

No no, all the violence is caused by "assault" weapons. If we could just ban them, we'd see a huge reduction in crime, and then we could talk about the logical next step of banning all private ownership of weapons ;)

Excellent post OP!

I have been saying this for a long time how the media is biased and then kirsten powers admits this. Since they control the media and schools they are not use to having their beliefs questioned and dont know how to debate their views so they resort to name calling and trying to shutdown the debate

I don't really see any great significance in this. There are always people on both sides that will be willing to make mild criticisms of their own people.

If that's a big deal, then Eric Erickson giving the entire Republican Party is an even bigger deal.

Furthermore, I can't take seriously any criticism of the media from someone on FNC. The place is an utter and complete joke.

There is significance though because so many people have been denying the bias that exists while the media has been getting away with it.

I dont agree with much of FNC but remember that kirsten powers is a LIBERAL and she ADMITTED THE TRUTH

The place is an utter and complete joke

I agree just like the rest of the MSM which all serve special interests

I just enjoyed the hypocrisy of Powers attacking "liberals" for ignoring facts and data while she, herself, offered no actual facts or data. All she did is tell O'Reilly what she feels to be true. She is welcome to her opinions, of course, but without any substance behind it her comments are just more feel-good reassurance for the right-wing fringe that they really do know best, no matter what reality shows.

To which I would add "from someone currently being employed and paid by the right-wing media, regardless of her (alleged) personal viewpoints".

There's only one real left-leaning person associated with FNC whom I trust to truly speak his mind, and that's Juan Williams.

Can someone please link to the Treasury's webpage that shows debt created by each president? TIA.

Why is kirsten powers not credible but Juan Williams is? I have seen her on FNC before and she argues for her cause, she has no reason to lie or make up stuff about this.

Do you remember why Juan Williams was fired from NPR?

Fox is a waste, but there is something to it. Remember Facebook? "Yeah they can do what they want" may be true but there's a bias. Same with guns. Those protests largely ignored and little said about how NY law was passed. I'm not suggesting conspiracy, but a lack of objectivity. Rarely are situations presented with consideration to more than one side. The argument might be made that the right is guilty as well but I'm not debating that. It's crappy journalism with a slant, often left. We're not well served.

It's been my experience that many libs aren't interested in opposing views. Nothing new here. The entire point of always saying conservatives are stupid is to marginalize them before even hearing what they have to say. That's generally followed by anger if they won't shut up.

This, Just look at P&N and its very evident right here. They will do everything to shut down the debate instead of using facts.

Yes, because liberals should engaged with idiots like you seriously. Oh, please do tell us again how Google is trying to destroy christmas by saying 'happy holiday's. Gosh, those damn liberals won't give your 'opposing view' the time of day, what a tragedy.

Fox News is liberal. If you define liberal as being the opposite of conservative, meaning for bigger government, more government power, more deficit spending, more military spending, more of any frickin metric you can name, Fox News is for it. But for some reason these dumbed down morons think Fox News is some kind of counterbalance. Clearly it is not a counterbalance to anything. This is part of the reason why this country is so enslaved, people just cant figured out the mental game being run on them. All of these mainstream media outlets are the same, serving the same master, putting out the same message: to keep you fighting with your fellow inmates while they steal what little wealth is left.

Actually, what really pisses me off about liberal journalism, say NPR, is that they pay way way way way way too much attention to the conservative side, so much so, that if you didn't know better, you would think that their point of view might have some slight rationality to it. I am so sick of the mainstream media painting these false equivalencies as if conservative altered reality had some real value or meaning instead of the rationalizations of defective minds. This is how we get into arguments about oh say, a 6000 year old earth vs one that is billions of years old as if the 6000 year people had something meaningful to say. I am sick of news that interviews inmates at a mental institution asking for their political opinions and that's what you get when you listen to conservatives today. It wasn't always that way. But let's keep up with reality. Quit putting complete dick heads in the news. They just encourage others to out do them in the insanity department.

In the case of this liberal news person making a case that fits conservatives to a tee, her information is revolutionary. It completely overturns the judgment of 16 peer review scientific studies that describes conservatives that way.

I figured it was best to ignore him. He was owned pretty hard

You have a weird definition of owned.

You bitching about Google 'destroying christmas' was the definition of 'owned'... 'self ownage' even.

You are ATPN's biggest laughingstock, deal with it.

Agree. Those 3 rules are used so often to shut down threads they disagree with
