Ten States with the most gun violence:

http://www.marketwatch.com/story/10-states-with-the-most-gun-violence-2015-06-30

Edit: Fun Fact, 7 out of 10 of them have stand your ground laws.

That list is based primarily on suicide rate. Blaming suicides on Stand Your Ground laws is nonsensical.

Here's a chart of real "gun violence" that properly excludes suicides. Fun fact, 7 out of the 10 states with the lowest firearm homicide rates have Stand Your Ground laws, and 7 out of the 10 states with the highest firearm homicide rates also have Stand Your Ground laws. This conclusively proves that Stand Your Ground is responsible for all gun violence, and also responsible for preventing all gun violence. QED.

Monetary policy is the single biggest policy influence on growth

So you are saying that the single biggest policy influence on our growth is controlled by persons not elected and relatively little to do with the party in power?

Tax cuts for the rich make the rich richer, high taxes on the rich encourage reinvestiment to avoid those high taxes and make the middle class richer.

I've never understood this theory. Higher taxes on the rich encourage reinvestment which results in greater profit which results in the rich again reinvesting which results in more reinvestment and so on? First of all, if reinvestment would net them further profit then the wealthy are already doing it because that's how they get more wealthy. Secondly, I can't imagine that the wealthy will stop seeking wealth simply because they have to pay a few more percent in taxes or even a few dozen more percent. They will simply pay more to their accountants to avoid the taxes (like Apple) or they will bite the bullet. Nobody works for free and at some point they will have to take their profits and pay the taxes, your theory is that they will wait until they have to pay even more taxes, due to reinvestment growing their worth and increasing profits which they wouldn't have done in a lower tax environment, to do that just doesn't make sense to me.

If they can increase their wealth by reinvestment then they will regardless of the tax rate, that's how most wealthy people got wealthy in the first place.

i doubt it was the tax cuts so much as the unprecedented deficit spending the tax cuts helped usher in that contributed to 80s growth. add in much lower interest rates than seen in the late 70s/early 80s and a consistent but falling price of oil from its peak in 1980 and you've got a recipe for growth.

and thank god for that. political control of the monetary system is about the worst thing for an economy.

It is controlled by elected officials in the end, they just had the wisdom to delegate it to the Fed.

Or Vancouver.. I lived there for a while.

Did I mention they had a riot when the Canucks lost the Finals to the Rangers and the Bruins?

I'd take 1 Hockey riot every decade over 1 Chicago weekends Murder rate. Which, coincidentally, is approx the annual Murders in the whole Vancouver region. Chicago does have 4ish(est) times the population, so in fairness the Vancouver regions Murders would be 4 Chicago weekends, assuming the rate would scale linearly.

Regardless, Liberal Cities in jurisdictions with strict Gun Control have much lower Murder rates than Liberal Cities in jurisdictions with very lax Gun Control.

Maybe because I sometimes watch the pigsty called Fox news just to watch the pigs play in their sty. That and I grew up on a farm.

Enjoy your 'mud'.

Funny, I grew up partly in North Dakota. People who watch FoxNews are not "pigs" they're stallions.

I keep seeing the thread title, and all I can think is that for as shitty as liberal cities can be, conservative cities are so much worse. If you think Oklahoma City or Omaha or Fort Lauderdale or Fort Worth is a big improvement on New York or Chicago or Seattle or San Francisco, you're probably the sort of person who hates Olive Garden because it's "too Eye-talian."
