Am I the only one who is sick of people throwing around these terms left and right? (oooooohhh, great pun :roll;) I think we need a sticky of the definitions of these terms and possibly punishments for misusing them. I believe that most of the people who use these terms really don't know what they mean and use them as a crutch when they really have nothing to say. Besides, what idiot would really like to be described by one word? Anyways, let me know what you think, and maybe we can get a sticky put up or something so that we can end this tirade of ignorance.

Well, I can provide a few characteristics of liberal based on the infinite wisdom of some individuals on these forums:

- Supports terrorism (sends checks to Osama himself)
- Un-patriotic
- Cannot be in the armed forces
- Celebrates when US troops suffer casualties
- Eats babies

I might of missed a few

when certain people here use the terms liberal or neocon on this forum it comes of and is meant as the same as "idiot" "moron" and so on, its written as an insult and therefore is an insult and in my opinion borderlines 1 week vacation

I posted definitions a while back for neoconservative/neoliberal. Neo-conservatism is characterized by belief in free markets, and aggressive foreign military policy. OTOH, the sort of domestic control the Bush administration likes to exercise is not neoconservative in origin.

Liberals generally believe in less restrictive social policy, and aren't opposed to government intervention in some aspects of the economy.

I see the use of the terms "liberal" or "neocon" as a jab that the person using the term has run out of ammo. The bandying about of the term "liberal" is far more prevalent. And, considering the current leaning up here is anti-Bush (not necessarily meaning it's liberal) shows, imo, the desperation of those defending Bush.

Now, I'll use my Bush-God fanboi when someone tries to defend something that is just totally ridiculous. For example, dismissing the Abu Ghraib abuses, defending the Bush/Cheney dog-and-pony show for the 9/11 Commission, etc.

Well until the Neocons dominating the Republican party are no longer in control it will stay that way for the foreseeable future, just ask McCain, Buchanan or the Log Cabin Republicans.

If you don't like being a Neocon and not proud of it throw them out of the Republican party, simple.

I understand Dave's frustration. His life was turned into a living hell. I'd probably be of a similar mindset as him if I had been in his shoes.

oh...so its fine for him to use the word neocon. you say "I see the use of the terms "liberal" or "neocon" as a jab that the person using the term has run out of ammo.", but when asked about the person who uses it the most, you dont criticize him for it? i see...

Many of us have had unfair lives Dave, but that doesn't mean we lose all objectivity.

Actually, I think it's the other way around. People resort to name-calling when they've run out of ammo. If name-calling is the best you can do, why are you even in the discussion? You say you don't like diversionary tactics... well, hauling out the name-calling is just one big fat diversion. It's an attempt to derail the discussion and it's lame... regardless of what the general sentiment on the board may be.

It's one thing to mention it now and then, especially when it's just in fun... but there are a few people here who rely on these terms as a foundation to their stance, and that's absurd.

Do i call all of the liberals on this board "brianwashed" for disagreeing with me? no. is it hard to just understand that people disagree on issues? why do you have to resort to retorts such as "bible thumper" "neocon" and "brainwashed" when people dont agree with your stance on issues. you have to understand that not everyone thinks the same as you and to respect that.

I enjoy talking with people who have differing views... I mean, how much fun would it be to just talk to a bunch of people who agree with everything I say? People like Dave though... I just feel bad for them. I can't imagine how torturous it must be to absolutely lose your mind anytime someone dares disagree with you.

Are you saying you are brainwashed or that I am? I think, that regardless of what happens in our life, that we should try to keep some objectivity when it comes to these things(i.e. politics).

He's saying that if you agree with him, you're being objective. If you don't, then you're brainwashed.

The sad thing is, I think he truly believes that.

Exactly.. Its getting tiring from the left on this board.. Bush is stupid, neocons are stupid, conservatives are stupid... I guess if you aren't a lefty you are stupid. I don't think liberals are stupid, brainwashed, or whatever.. They have a different idea on how to solve the problems we face as a country.. I don't agree with them, but they aren't as a general rule 'stupid'..

But I don't the lefties on this board share similar view of the right.
