jesus christ give the recession thread a rest

Seems someone is still in denial...

I did not claim that there was NO recession.

I questioned all the doom sayers who claimed that we were facing the great depression part 2.

Here we are a year later and the 'worst recession of all time' turned out to be no worse than the 1982 recession.

Try to be a little more honest in your attacks in the future.

Yeah about the only similarities about that thread and this one is that both OP's are full of shi..err..baloney but that's about it.

I still don't understand why all the angst over what a handful of radical actors say about some Latin American asshole who rules a third world nation.

From a Socialist point of view Chavez had a choice. Use the failed template of his buddy Castro of old-school authoritarian state capitalist stalinist/maoist government or set up a democratic mixed market state ala europe.
Damn shame he made the decision he did. Another dipshit who screws over the revoloution for power.
It is far far easier to run a dictatorship then a Democracy, just as it is easier to run a crappy planned economy lorded over by insiders and corrupt cronies then it is to run a well-regulated free market.
In the meantime no real harm done, he will be voted out sooner or later and Venz's destiny will be in the hands of the voters.
The Columbia thing is not good though, does he really think a proxy war with the US is going to work? But then where is the US going to get more monies to pay for another war?

The bigger picture is not Socialism/Capitalism, Latin America is moving beyond US/western imperialism that has held its people in it's grip for centuries. It has been brewing since the 60s (and even back to Simon Bolivar -a huge fan of our own General Washington).

If anything Castro and friends have probably helped the US and neo-liberalism, as they have discredited Socialism with their shitty undemocratic regimes.

Mark Loyd, FCC Diversity Czar http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XWYJRtKHthk
This is particularly remarkable because Chavez is closing all television and radio stations except those owned by his supporters, thereby ensuring only good press - and Mark Loyd is the FCC diversity czar. You do the math. But first, think about the GM & Chrysler "bail-outs", where secured bondholders got shafted and the unions were given the bulk of the company even though their claims came dead last according to 230 years of US jurisprudence. Where dealers were shut down or kept open according to political whim rather than profitability. Now fast forward and think about media outlets and what might be done in the name of diversity. Fascism is alive and well today, in Venezuela and sadly in the USA; the rule of law is in retreat, the rule of man is in ascendancy.
