Lian Li PC-65 or Thermaltake Tsunami

Hey, I'm torn between two cases - the Lian Li Silver PC-65 or the Black Thermaltake Tsunami. I'm a first time builder also. The guy at the local shop is offering me a Tsunami for around $80. I preferably want a black case too. I'm not ordering off Newegg either and they seem to be the only ones carrying the black PC-65. So which should I get? The Tsunami at $80 or is it worth the extra $20 do buy the PC-65 online?

Go for the Lian-Li case. The removable mobo tray is worth more than the ~$20 difference you're talking about, especially since you're a first time builder. I wish that the first case I used for a system build had a removable tray, but it didn't... I don't even think such things were available at the time, or were affordable for individuals.

Tsunami is awsome! I'm a first time builder and the removable mobo tray wasnt necessary! It's quiet, great airflow, and looks awsome! I wish i coulda got it for $80 (got it for $120)

"looks awesome?" that's debatable. pc-65's looks are much better imo and the quality is much better

Yeah because we all know Lian Li cares so much about us....

I'd say either is fine.

i have a pc-65, but i'd take a close consideration of the tt for the 120mm fans alone. cooling/airflow in the pc-65 isn't the greatest imo.

The Tsunami for $80 is a sweet deal. 120mm fans = great cooling.
I can't imagine buying a new case these days with 80mm fans.

Baseless Thermaltake bashing is currently in vogue and Lian Li does have a great reputation, but they won't send you a thank you note or a check if you buy their product. If you can go see both cases you can decide best for yourself.

Hmm, well I saw the Tsunami and I thought it looked pretty good myself. It's not gaudy at all IMO. Maybe the Xasers are but not the Tsunami....Anyway, I'm so torn between which to get? Any last minute suggestions?!?!

Personally I would get the Tt case instead of the Lian-li. I don't care for their looks (in my opinion the PC 65 is NOT sleek, just plain) and the cooling will be much better and quieter in the Tt case.

Of course it is debatable, just like everyones comments on how the Lian-Li looks are debatable. People are offering their own opinion and it just so happens that one did not agree with yours... bummer for you.

Definately the PC-65. No question. you might be able go get away with cooling your box with just the 120mm top fan and a 120mm psu. with dust covers on all the other openings.

Most likely that will not be enough, he will need some intake as that Lian-Li only has tiny holes in the front. At least one 80mm intake fan should be used to pull some air in and that means the case will be noiser. The build quaility may be better, but not enough to jusify the noise and lack of air flow.

Between those two the Tt is the better choice for overall system performance and, in my opinion, looks.

Perhaps, all depends what he puts in the box. 2 80mm panaflo L1A on Low will provide plenty of intake "without" noise as intake for the PC-65.

I'm puttin an MSI k8n neo2, 3500 Winchester, XP-90, Vantec Tornado for HS, Radeon 9800 Pro, 1 Seagate 120gb, 1 floppy, 1 audigy 2 zs, 1gb RAM. That's about it. So does the Nexus Fit?!?!?!?!?!

You are probably right but I always try to avoid more than a single 80mm in any case regardless of the "noise" level. The ratings on fans in general are bunk and the 80mm's seem to be the worst of the lot (at least in my experience). Still, if you could find quiet enough ones then it might work, though I still think the tsunami looks MUCH better than the Lian-Li...

You won't have to worry at all with the Lian-Li case...

BTW, with using the tornado fan I gather you don't care one lick about how much noise the system produces...

Yes, the Nexus will fit in one of the 5.25 slots.

I believe he's concerned with the clearance between the drive bay and the case door's inside... Unless someone pipes up that actually has that combination, OR measures the clearance the door gives over the front of the bays, you'll have to get them and find out. Of course, you could just contact the manufacturers and ask them if the products will play nice... Although doesn't Tt have a product that competes with the nexus?? That could skew their answer to your question.
