Ok I thought it was hilarious, but since I've never heard of Ricky Gervais or this show, was this sketch all improv, or just a written sketch about improv? Either way I loved it.

Firstly, YOU'VE NEVER HEARD OF RICKY GERVAIS?! Hosted the Golden Globes these last two years, wrote and starred in the Office...?! No?

Secondly, no it's not improv, it's not a sketch show either, it's a documentaryesque comedy show, like The Office and Extras.
 
"We actually worked together on Star Wars Phantom Menace. We had a scene together, it was cut though. Do you remember?"
"Ok."
 
This was outstanding.
If you liked it you should watch Extras. Pretty similar humor.
The Harry Potter and Kate Winslet episodes are particularly good.
