Department of Motor Vehicles offices across Long Island were jammed on Tuesday by thousands of people in the country illegally, who waited for hours on long lines that snaked outside the offices for an opportunity to apply for a driver's license, advocates said.

Immigrants lined up as early as 4 a.m., despite the cold and rain, as a new state law permitting immigrants here illegally to obtain licenses went into full effect for a second day.

We've been told ad nauseum that it was too difficult for people to get an ID that would be required to vote yet people are lined up to get driver's licenses? I know that I show my drivers license to vote. A drivers license is ID - right?
 
Cool beans.

I'll fully support forcing Rs to compile all sorts of gov documents, then waiting hours in long lines to get another gov document, all for the opportunity to drive long distances to far way gov polling locations to wait in more long lines to vote for Trump, just to find out they got purged from the voter rolls because reasons.

What he said. You would also go after the handling of ballots after they are cast. Also require paper backup. All these things outpace in person voter fraud.

Did you ever consider that they're getting driver's licenses to drive, not because they intend to commit voter fraud? In fact, there's a passage in the article you quoted where immigrants stated as much:

"Many immigrants said that such basic activities as driving their children to school or to doctors' appointments will no longer be nerve-racking activities because of worries they would be pulled over by the police and given a ticket."

The point is not to encourage illegal immigrants to stay, or to rig elections; this is New York, outside of a handful of areas it's a Democrat safe zone. It's to make sure the ones that are already here are driving safely and don't flee police if they're asked to pull over. Imagine that, actually caring for the well-being of people outside of your family.

I mean, I know you've been conditioned to mindlessly accept Trump's xenophobia and scapegoating, but try to think for yourself and exhibit some basic human kindness.
 
So...because these people found it easy in LI, it must follow that it is easy everywhere else in the entire country, for everyone, no tagbacks, fuck you liberals, the end.

I think the OP is attempting to say voter ID laws have no issues because look at the illegals getting DLs in Long Island. If illegals can get them in one state then everyone must be able to get them easily everywhere and we libs should stop bitching about voter ID laws.

That's exactly what he's saying. The appropriate answer though is that it doesn't matter how easy or hard it is to get an ID to vote because voter ID doesn't solve any problems.

It's like saying you should get minotaur repellent because it's on sale.
 
Getting a drivers license has nothing to do with voting.

Assuming states charged a fee to issue a voter ID (which they certainly will), then voter IDs would be unconstitutional per the 24th amendment.

The Republican rationale for voter ID laws has nothing to do with voter fraud, and everything to do with discouraging legal citizens from legally exercising their Constitutional right to vote. Because when your policies don't appeal to the majority of the voting populace, the only way to keep winning elections is to ensure that some voters stay home.

You need a license to get insurance. I'd rather have hundreds of thousands of undocumented immigrants with licenses than hundreds of thousands (more) uninsured drivers who could run into me. The state could easily put some kind of mark on it that indicates it's not valid for voting.
 
Li resident. Lived here most of my life .
You dont need a drivers license to vote here.
To register to vote, you need a ss number and some form of state id.

To vote on election day, you just sign your name in the book or tablet next to your name on the state list

As for brown people getting drivers licenses, that's a good thing for reasons that no one cares about because they wont listen

In case it is not crystal clear.
In order to register to vote in NYS, you need a Social Security card (Who gets SS cards?) and a valid State issued ID (proving you live in the State)
So the only people who can vote in NYS are NY residents who are also Social Security card holders (https://www.ssa.gov/pubs/EN-05-10002.pdf)
That gets you on the voter roles


DIf you still do not understand how voting works in NYS I can go into further detail.

If your point is to rehash some bullshit talking point you heard on FoxNews or from some old fokker in the southern states then I guess you don't have anything to contribute to this topic.

If you want to understand why issues drivers licenses to these folks is important, I can probably help cover the main points.

This is the kind of thinking that makes them think its OK to steal elections. They are told the reason they steal elections is because the dems are stuffing the ballot box. It's untrue but they don't care. All this stuff should be investigated and those who seeded such information should be hung for being a traitor. All who echoed it should catch a federal misdemeanor for sedition. We need to stop pretending these people have the best interests of the country at heart. Its time to get medieval.
