LGG3? S5? Motox (2) ? need new phone today

Dropped my LG G2, so I have to get a new phone.
Good news is that I can use an "upgrade" that I am eligible for with Verizon.

The S5 is older, but the water resistance seems like a great feature since I kayak alot.


Thoughts?

Sucks you can't wait for the Z3 or Note 4. You have the usual suspects:

- LG G3 if you want the larger screen, can deal with not as great battery life and some issues with the screen
- Moto X 2014 IMO if you want a 5.2" phone
- S5 only if you need IP protection - its not that its worse than the new Moto X, but they seem pretty equivalent and with the Moto, you'll get faster updates.

Have you considered the HTC One M8? It's fairly tall for the screen size, and the camera isn't so hot, but I love the build quality, performance and overall taste in Android customization. HTC has also committed to upgrading devices to newer versions of Android for two years after they launch, so you (hopefully) won't be quickly abandoned like you will be with most Android OEMs.

I just came back from Costco and was looking at the G3.......thinking of getting this. Still haven't decided.....

Sounds solid to me... the G3 has its quirks, but it's the only 5.5-inch phone that feels truly pocketable (unless you have big pockets, anyway).

I played around with a friend's S5, and surprised to see that it lags. More than an old HTC One (M7) or even an S4. And it's fairly new, and as far as I could tell he wasn't running anything unusual and it definitely was stock.

Probably solved by getting rid of TouchWiz and flashing a different ROM, but I'd still go M8 or G3. Or the Note 3 or 4 if you can wait. I don't know why, but TouchWiz always seems lighter on the Notes. Or get a Lumia Icon or 1520 if you are open to Windows Phone.

Yeah odd - didn't realize the new X had a relatively small battery. 2.5-3 hours on-screen in mixed usage isn't acceptable anymore.

I'd love to get 3 hours consistently. I get about 2 to 2.25 hours with my Nexus 5.

FWIW, I picked up a G2 on Swappa recently for $200... consistently getting 4-6hours of screen time using Netflix or clash of clans

Sony Z3 or Z3 compact. Tmobile should be announcing their version tomorrow.

Ebay has the Z3 for ~600 and the Z3 compact for ~500 right now.

You can get an current clocked 801 cpu, 3 gb memory (2 in the compact), great battery life, waterproof over what the S5 offers, better camera, and better skin (personal preference).

Crap, just noticed you're on verizon. Umm... There are rumors of it coming to verizon, but nothing concrete if you need a phone now.
