This guy seems like a real awesome dude, /s. I wasn't gonna post this one, because it's BAU for many R's, but these parts stood out:

But Porterfield took the opportunity to double down on his statements. On Friday morning, he called the offices of the Gazette-Mail, which had published an article on the Democratic backlash to his statements.
In the phone call, the news outlet reported, Porterfield called his critics "brutal monsters" and called the LGBT community a "terrorist group." He also compared them to the KKK.
"The LGBTQ is a modern-day version of the Ku Klux Klan, without wearing hoods, with their antics of hate," he reportedly said.

A few days later, the lawmaker continued his line of commentary. During an interview with local TV station WVVA, Porterfield, wearing a "Make America Great Again" hat, gave an odd answer when asked what he would do if he had a son or daughter who was gay.
"Well, I will address my daughter first. I would take her for a pedicure, I'd take her to get her nails done, and see if she could swim," Porterfield said while smiling. "If it was my son, I would probably take him hunting, I would take him fishing, then I'd see if he could swim."
"I just want to make sure they could swim," he said when asked to clarify his comments.

I find this second part distrubing as he's implying he would drown his own child if they turned out to be gay.

Whaddaguy

It seems ridiculous to even say this, but I am without words.

How is this NOT a bigger story!?!?!?!

What would you do if your son or daughter was gay?
Well.........I'd take them out and "see if they can swim"? Seriously!?!? People aren't up in arms over this????????

EDIT: I only read the OP when I replied. I've clicked the linked and IMMEDIATELY recognized this lame excuse for a human being and the story.

I sure, being well aware of who and what their parent is, I would hope any off springs he has that were gay that they would keep it to themselves until they moved out.

Or, you know, they could have someone demonstrate 2A on his ass. I'm sure he'd appreciate it.

My state says: "Hey Florida, hold my beer!"

Remember when politicians at least pretended to represent all of their constituents? Those were the good ole days.

Since we’re all bigots on both sides now...allow me to point out this guy looks like he swan dove headfirst into the shallow end of the gene pool. Yowza. He is not a good representative for the superior master race!

But Trump said that MAGA is LGBTQ friendly!
It is just as long as we limit friendliness to token gestures at select rallies to pull in a few votes while simultaneously encouraging hatred towards them and treating them like second class citizens.

They want people to forget how recently it was that being LGBTQ was illegal (2003 btw). That's how they distort the narrative into them being the ones who are being oppressed. The irony of the KKK reference is that the KKK believed they were the ones who were oppressed by no longer being 'free' to own other human beings like livestock. Likewise, the MAGA believes they are the ones being oppressed because they are no longer 'free' to assault LGBTQ on sight, like they used to.

There should have been a follow up question: And what would you do if they *could* swim?

Interesting background on Porterfield: For one thing, he's blind. From Wikipedia:

Eric Earl Porterfield (born November 17, 1974) is an American politician and a Republican member of the West Virginia House of Delegates representing District 27. Representing parts of Mercer and Raleigh counties, he was first elected in 2018. Porterfield is the second blind person to ever serve in the West Virginia legislature.

Porterfield grew up in Princeton, West Virginia, and attended a Bible college at age 20. In 2006, at age 32, he was immediately, permanently blinded in a physical altercation. After that incident, he met Jessica Worrell. They married and have two children. Porterfield founded Blind Faith Ministries in 2009, as part of which he traveled to South Sudan in 2012.

"permanently blinded in a physical altercation." Maybe he was punched out by a gay guy?

He claims that some issues (presumably legal or liability-related) are “still pending,” and reports that the incident took place on December 10, 2006.

Did he go quail hunting with Dick Cheney?

His Wikipedia entry mentions that his daughter is four years old, and his son several months old. I guess the plan is to never spring for swimming lessons. I am a little curious about how credulous his son will have to be when his dad says “Let’s go hunting” to say “Sure thing, Pop. Lemme get your Braille rifle for you.”

Are you implying that there is some law in America that prevents blind people from legally owning a firearm? Surely you jest??

Oh great, now some troll is going to say that liberal objections to this elected official saying he would drown his young kids if they were gay are because of some anti-blind bigotry.

Yeah, LGBTQ rallies are pretty much like every KKK rally.

To be fair, this could all be that famous anti-KKK bias from Google, because I took a random sampling from the first page of images for both categories. Unfortunately, this is the closest thing I could find of LGBTQs lynching a breeder at one of their rallies:

The saddest thing is that there's someone out there who willing decided to procreate with the GOP-lite version of Jabba the Hut.
