LG Voyager Replacement

Hey guys,

I have an LG Voyager Titanium (the newer revision) that I got back in January. It's a great phone, but I have a few complaints:

#1 - Bulky and heavy. My girlfriend bought an LG Versa a couple of months after I got my phone, and it's much smaller and sleeker, especially with the removable back. When I bought my phone, the size and weight was the only thing that gave me second thoughts, though I decided to grab it anyway.

#2 - Only three alarm clocks. I stay at a couple different places, so I use these instead of a regular alarm. My schedule can be really odd at times, so being able to set 10 or more alarms is nice. At least 5 would be handy.

#3 - Charger. The port that the charger plugs into on this phone isn't universal. The Versa looks like it might be a standard mini-USB port, though I'm not 100% sure. The ability to plug this into my laptop or something similar to charge it would be a huge help.

#4 - Menus. The menus aren't bad, but again, the Versa is much better. I love the Versa's ability to keep your "favorite" contacts on the phone's primary screen (home page? desktop? what would you call it?).

With all that said, someone with another Verizon plan is due for an upgrade. They love my Voyager, and they're offering to buy a different phone and trade with me (if I cover any additional costs to make it even). I would just grab a Versa, but the touch screen is no where near as good as the Voyager.

Here's what I'm looking for in a phone:

* Relatively small and light - thin is good, height and width aren't as much as an issue. I think iPhones are a great size, primarily because of their thickness.
* Touch screen - after switching to a touch screen phone, I'll never go back. The screen must be at least as big as the Voyager / Versa.
* Decent battery life, decent text keyboard (touch or hardware), normal software like alarms, etc.
* Verizon only

What's my best bet?

Checked out the EnV Touch? It's thinner and light than the voyager and both the screens are better. My problem with the versa was that the screen was way to small.

I've had both phones so if you have any questions just ask.

How much later this year? I think they're looking to upgrade the phone within a month or so, but I might be able to convince them to hold off for an extra month or two.

The Samsung Omnia (original) looks pretty good too, though I haven't seen it in person so I can't judge it by size. If it's wider I don't mind, as long as it's thinner and not any longer.

I'll check it out. I think the original EnV had some problems, and a lot of people told me to stay away. That's the main reason I haven't looked at it much, but if it's better than the original, I'd be glad to try it out.

It's too bad they don't offer a phone loaner program so you could take it home and try it for a day. Even if it cost $5 or $10, it'd still be worth it over grabbing a phone you'll end up hating.

If the OP had read my review he could have saved himself some heartache. If he had read all the other posts in this forum he would not have needed a new thread.

As for specific issues:
1- The Env touch is really not so much slimmer that you would notice it. Dont bother if size and bulk and weight are your concerns.
2- If you need a buttload of alarm clocks and other productivity features, stay away from LG's altogether. They are NOT smartphones, they are just really cool multimedia phones.
3- LG is one of the few companies that still hides from universal chargers. This might not change anytime soon.
4- I have had a bunch of phones through Verizon. The company insists on forcing their UI onto pretty much all phones they get, even Blackberry's have some Verizon tweaks done to them. I have also owned one AT&T phone recently and played with many in the store. LG's default UI is far superior to anything Verizon can come up with, but unfortunately Verizon also has most of the LG's. I dont like them, but thats life. Am amazed you liked the Versa UI because I thought it was mostly the same crap but the icons were slightly prettier. I still had a hard time digging around and trying to find stuff. I still dont think it lets you customize the way you should. On the other hand, I got spoiled by Nokias S60 and I still think its the easiest overall, even if it is older.

New issue: I dont know if you have the memory overflow error on your Voyager (look at the web too long or other memory intensive activities and the phone resets itself) but those problems carried over to the Env3 and Env Touch and it doesnt look like it will be fixed in this generation of phones. LG has not been able to fix the problem, even with new firmware.

The Vu has a better touchscreen and battery life than the Voyger/Touch form factor, and its much thinner and lighter. But it only has one screen and no physical keypad. However, becuase of the superior touch screen its one of the few phones I felt happy using the software keypad. Very easy to change from short to wide in any app. The Voyager doesnt always let you do that on its front touchscreen. The Vu does not have any of the issues of the Env Series or Voyager series. The Vu is only available at AT&T.

Personally, I with the LG's were sliders instead of flips and they put all their effort into one kickass screen as opposes to two mediocre screens. I am sorry you feel like you have to stay with Verizon because they have so many darn issues with their phones right now. Shame because they still have probably the best service.

I used AT&T for about 3-4 years before switching to Verizon. Both have decent coverage throughout the area, but AT&T has no bars in the two places I spend 90%+ of my time (and oddly enough, the two places are a few towns apart; one town has very poor AT&T coverage for several square miles, and the place I stay at is right in the middle of it).

The Samsung Omnia is still looking like a good option at this point. Thanks for the input guys.
