Has anyone picked up this phone? I got one today and so far so good. I am getting use to it slowly but surely. It beats the old env2 I have been using for sure and for $25 the VM plan is pretty nice. Just wondering if anyone picked this up and what your thoughts are about it.

Too bad VM has a terrible coverage area round here; the pricing on their plans is really great. It'll get full bars in one spot, walk two feet and you don't have any reception.

That's odd, Here all around the NY metro area, and in NJ thru to Philly, Native sprnt coverage (Virgin coverage) is about as good as AT&T. What I really want to figure out is if the Optimus is good enough to drop $150 on to upgrade from my intercept. (and to give up saying that I have a 'Virgin Interceptor' ;-) )

it looks like a decent phone for 25 but when i tried it in the sprint store its definitely a step or two down from a droid. virgin has been pretty aggresive about pumping decent phones out lately so im hoping they come out with a gigahertz phone soon, that woul be a definite get

You can use the Speedtest app on this phone, and yes the download speed will vary depending on your location.

I saw speed test in the market I will do it later, I'm sure it works but I'm in ohio so our differences will vary. After using this phone all night and today I have no complaints. VM wont be releasing a 1ghz phone anytime soon for a decent price. Hell the intercept started at $250 the optimus is $150 but ya never know

please do the speed test im really wondering whether its much slower than contract service. have you found the indoor reception to be ok? and have you tried tethering yet?

im sure there will be a gigahertz phone soon. they just released the intercept a month or so ago and immediately followed it up with the better optimus at a lower price, so it looks like they are willing to sell pretty good phones. once dual core is standard 3 months from now theyll let the gigahertz ones on virgin

does it work most of the time and do you ever get the feeling that youre being bumped for contract users?

I picked up one yesterday. So far love it compared to my old HTC Hero which i got rid of awhile ago. Sure its no Droid or EVO but its close. And for only $25 it cant be beat.

Edit: I just did my speed test on 3G. :( Only 209kbps down and 166kbps up at my house. Glad i have wifi here :) Ill try it at work tomorrow on 3G since my building is right across the street from the Sprint Headquarters youd think it would be good LOL

3G seems to vary a lot. From 155kbps down up to 620kbps depending on test and bars.

Sometimes when I do speed tesy its slow like 260kbps but it works fine when I load a web page. Its no droid for sure like you said but you can't get this service elsewhere for the price

Thats sad, cuz I kinda like my Droid but hate paying Verizons ridiculous prices. I wanna go to Virgin Mobile so badly. I wonder if I root the phone can I have them set it up to work with their service.

For reference, any of you having coverage issues or concerned about it should check the official Sprint map for service. Thats who they use. (You'll notice on their price comparison page they chose to not include Sprint. :sneaky:)

"OT" Rumors from VM are that a new 4 inch android is coming this summer.

I have been thinking of getting the optimus v but my intercept is not that bad .

I'm more disappointed with the crappy VM coverage and dropped calls from home.

If I walk a few hundred yards to the mountains (where nobody lives) it's five bars .

We don't have AT&T at all in the corner of WI that I live in.

It violates the terms of the contract, but I've heard of more than one person who's modded a high-end Sprint or Verizon Android to work on Virgin.

The more I mess with this phone the more I like it. If they release a better phone 6 months from now I'll buy it and replace the ole ladies env 2 with this optimus.

.

I currently have a Hero on Sprint and I hate it so much.... I am thinking of paying the ETF to dump it and grab the VM and Optimus V combo. Is the Optimus a big step up speedwise
from the Hero?
