It's quite a nice device. I have an AT&T branded one. I paid retail, and it's well worth it.

It's tall and thin, the display is beautiful, but it's got nothing on any SAMOLED display, IMO.

It's performance is on-par with every other flagship/high-end phone out there, the Snapdragon 600 and Adreno 320 CPU/GPU is a beast. However, if community development is important to you, stay away. It's got a locked bootloader on AT&T and zero developers.

Headphone jack output is a bit low - I had to adjust my gains to get the same amount od volume out of it as with my Note II.

I tried writing on it today - that part sucks compared to the Note II. I'm actually considering fixing my Note II's screen and selling the OG Pro.

lothar, he is being serious. The LG Optimus G Pro has one of the best smartphone displays on the market.

It beats the iPhone 5's display in black levels and contrast. The only area where the iPhone 5 beats the LG Optimus G Pro is white levels, but even then, anything above 600 cd/m^2 is excellent.

In fact the LG Optimus G Pro has the best contrast levels out of all LCD displays and only Super AMOLED displays beat them (because Super AMOLED displays have infinite contrast).

Super AMOLED displays have the best black levels (0 cd/m^2 is the definition of black) and infinite contrast but IPS LCD displays beat them in white levels.

Personally I prefer IPS LCD over Super AMOLED displays, although I would put it on par with the Galaxy S4.

Note that IPS LCD is superior over TFT.

Have you ever seen a Samsung OLED? Just because it has excellent blacks does not mean it has the best display. The white is weak and consumes a lot of battery as soon as you leave a dark room when you have to ramp up the brightness. Worse, the colors are damn near unreliable. But the worst thing about them are the tints. It's like Samsung put a sheen of kaleidoscope color (pick a color, any color) on the glass and called it a day.They're getting better but still noticeable.

This is not an exaggeration. If you've ever wanted brightness on the same level as LCDs then you have to ramp up the brightness. That eats into battery life. This is general for all OLED screens. Samsung's are worse because the colors are just off because of a strange tint.

I have 3 phones right now and they're all OLEDs. None from Samsung. The Samsungs that I have encountered from other people have that tint. Of course, it also has the brightness issue (from my own observations at stores).

I'll second this. I had the G Pro for 3 days. Headphone jack output was disappointing by default. Didn't even know you could adjust it.

Another thing I hated was the back speaker. And the notification shade is way too cluttered.

Ended up returning it because it was too big and heavy for my needs. I'm now using the S4 Active happily.

I'm just going to say this one time and be done with it. You are way too reliant on what review sites say regarding screens. I remember getting into it with you some time back and you constantly referenced a site that discussed I believed the S4 screen. When I told you I had personally seen the S4 (when it first came out) and compared to my iPhone at the time and other IPS panels you weren't having it. You need to chill out. If you dig Samsung OLED's, that's great. But you are obsessed with quoting a site's opinion. And then anytime someone says otherwise you won't have it.

My statement was actually meant in two ways. The first one is that the G Pro has a beautiful screen, which Germanic had explained in details. I won't be adding more into that. Go to a store to see and experience it yourself.

The second one, I was also talking about LG displays in general, so it includes TVs, computer monitors, laptop screens, etc., not just phones. I have been having discussions with some Korean friends about LG vs Samsung and we were discussing how LG displays have had an increasingly better quality in the past year or so (and how the brand is getting increasingly more trust from the consumer, in this case, in Korea), and how they are in a position to challenge Samsung now. We didn't all agree that LG displays are always better than Samsung displays, but some products definitely are.

Not the end of the world.

I purchase the phone at launch and was a little bit disappointed with very little action at XDA for the phone....Then I realized that the stock rom is fine, the LG is skin is pretty lite. The AT&T bloatware apps can just be disabled if not wanted/needed.

I'm I guess a lite user for smartphones. Mostly use it to surf the web with a text and a call here and there.

My phone just dipped below the 5% mark this AM with 116hrs and 4hrs 12min of screen time

The reason I stated my battery stats is to show how efficient the stock rom is on battery life. No tweaking involved except disabling apps I don't use. No nasty wake states a person deals with a lot on custom roms.

I'm not a app person nor do I game on my phone so a persons results may very with battery life. Guess most people will know this anyways.

The screen is very nice if a person isn't addicted to the pop of SMOLED.

Yes, LG does make excellent screens. They've been in the Dell monitors, iPads, and other devices I've purchased in the past couple of years. Samsung makes excellent LCDs too, but not OLEDs.

Hate is such a strong word. I don't hate them. I just think they are of poor quality. I don't use them and you are free to ignore the posts where I repeat this or just ignore me permanently. Many have claimed that you can calibrate the screens and the tints will go away so I suggested to someone a couple of months ago to calibrate the screen at a particular Best Buy. Nothing crazy about that.

All due respect but I don't need someone giving me a sermon as to what I should or should not say. If I've broken any forum rules then the moderators will let me know. Otherwise, please follow my suggestion and ignore what I write if you feel this way. All due respect.

I know some LG displays are good. I have their LCD TV and they make one of the best LCD TV's(as long you pay very close attention to what you're buying and not fall for their panel lottery gimmicks) IMO. I also have both a Panasonic plasma and Pioneer Kuro that is better than that though. All Samsung TV's I've compared to both LG and Panasonic/Pioneer were inferior IMO and not even worth considering. My point here is Samsung isn't known for their quality screens on TV...Only cheap prices.
LG has a very good reputation on computer monitors as well that I'm aware off.

But I have never heard them being known for their screens on cellphones. On the LCD side of cellphones, it's either Apple or HTC(One and OneX are both raved for their screens).
The screens on the LG G2X, LG Optimus, LG Optimus 2x, LG Optimus 4x, and whatever all looked like crap.
The screen on the LG Optimus G looked average when I saw it and is nothing special to write home about.
The screen on my Nexus 4 looks average and is nothing to write home about.
Maybe this was a case of LG building high quality screens for other people(like Apple, etc...) and fitting their own phones with crap screens?
or maybe they just figured out something within the last few months and all of a sudden started making quality screens?

I haven't seen the Optimus G Pro screen yet but if it's as good as it's being claimed here, then let's hope that LG uses this screen in the Nexus 5 if they're the one making it.

Like I mentioned earlier, this is news to me that LG now has the best LCD screens because besides Apple, HTC has always been the only company hyped to have the best one.
So it's now official that LG has dethroned HTC regarding LCD mobile phone screen technology?
(I realize that HTC doesn't actually make their own screens so no need to get into that, I'm just comparing the screens on their phones)
