There won't be a "LG" nexus 5. Did you even read the 100 or so word article?

The Article does not say that Google will not be going forward with a Nexus 5 just LG won't be making it which turns out the Vice Presidents comments were misinterpreted: http://www.androidcentral.com/lg-vp-comments-nexus-5-misinterpreted

So LG might or HTC or Motorola. It's to soon to tell.

The Nexus 4 is still selling well and a White backed version is coming Tomorrow. It's still a pretty powerful phone for the price which Google may be delaying the launch of the Nexus 5 for bit since it still has powerful enough hardware to still be worth the selling price. I wouldn't expect a N5 for maybe another year. Then again well see....

I think well get that Motorola X Phone in the Play Store before a Nexus 5 which could be a customizable phone in which you can choose the hardware? Well just have to wait and see which of the X Phone rumors are true and false....

The Galaxy S4 Nexus-ify edition is also coming June 26th.

As much as I like the Nexus line, it always feels like the devices are getting shorted a bit. The speaker on the Galaxy was a joke. The Nexus 4 is nice, but didn't LG downgrade a few things on it? (camera, I believe?)

Personally, I'd like to see more stock devices sold through the Play Store. I don't have an issue if they're sold at their normal prices (I.e. an HTC One is $579, so hopefully a Google Edition version is also $579). It would also be nice if Google would make use of Motorola.

And doesn't Google's recent changes to their services make the Android updates from the manufacturers/carriers semi-moot?

i think the nexus line is done for, i just doesnt serve a purpose anymore, but well see more of the high end phones sold with the "google experience" for those that want it, at the regular prices

I don't get it, why don't Motorola get into making a nexus line of devices on their own ? Is it just me or the idiots at Google who made the decision to gobble up Motorola mobility are more idiotic than MS' metrosexual executives. I mean they have a perfectly capable hardware unit that can compete with Apple & Samsung at both the features & design aspect of a tablet/smartphone & yet we have no new smartphone/tablet of note from Motorola since what the last two years at the very least

Google is purposely letting Motorola operate kind of independently so that none of the other manufacturers feel that Motorola is getting an unfair advantage.

But "cutting off the nose to save face" is kinda stupid, isn't it ? They can release good hardware from Motorola, non nexus, to continue that particular division & if need be use the same Motorola mobility for their Nexus line, its not like Samsung is gonna go AWOL over this & abandon Android for win8 or Tizen !

theyre never going to use motorola to sell nexus. of course they would like to. theyre looking at the android business and seeing samsung make all the money, and watching apple become the most valuable company in the world, and thinking that should be them. it certainly could be, motorola makes really nice stuff, i like their stuff more than apples or samsungs, they just need to come up with sheet before the specs are outdated

Why not, they don't have to but it certainly wouldn't be the end of the world if they went that way !

As the last poster said its Google holding them back artificially & I don't see a valid reason to do so at this point in time unless they're somehow trying to appease Samsung :hmm:

I honestly believe they would if they felt like they couldn't fairly compete in the Android space. Not WP8, but Tizen. Have you seen Samsungs Tizen phone? They're porting look alike apps to the platform from their Android devices. I would imagine Samsung wouldn't really have any issues going Tizen if push came to shove.

The thing is platform power, as in OS & related apps, over rules hardware(x86/ARM) or brand allegiance & probably has since forever AFAIK.

Making a billion or so android owners jump the ship with just a name like Samsung, Apple can do this to an extent, isn't as it easy as it sounds & they've failed before with Bada so they're certainly not going to bet their lives on Tizen, even if Motorola starts getting serious about increasing their market share. The thing is that if Samsung does get outside of their comfort zone & makes Tizen/win8 as their staple OS then that void will be filled by other manufacturers who'll try to make some decent profit in the droid world, since Samsung wouldn't be in a position to do so !

I don't think that is the case. Its more like Google isn't helping them, and the path Moto was on before Google bought them sucked.

HTC showed this year that if you make a good phone out of fancy materials and you don't lock it down people will notice.

Imagine a Moto phone, 1080p screen, made of Kevlar, with a Maxx battery, no bootloader, and either stock android or a Nexus version. We would all go nuts over that.

One thing I love about the mobile community and news is that we are so focused on hackability. If you lock your bootloaders, or be a pain to work with, the community finds out and persecutes you for it far beyond what is reasonable for the offense.

I mean, to most consumers locked bootloaders don't matter, but the Android press goes nuts over it and things like the "Google S4." Heck, Google themselves spent like 2 minutes on the Google S4 in their presentation but we all acted like it was the biggest news of the night.

Moto just doesn't get that when you lock stuff down you 1: Push away those who would be the biggest advocates of your product 2: Put negative "news" stories on Google that regular people don't understand but will change their opinion.

Seems like good news that LG isn't going to make the next Nexus phone to me. They did such a lousy job manufacturing the first one. It took them months to catch up to demand. I know some want to blame Google for this, but me feeling is it was LG's fault/decision.

Not crazy about the glass back. Nobody that wants to make a phone out of glass should be manufacturing Nexus phones.

And a top of the line camera. Then i'd go nuts for that. That's why i bought the One. :)
