The numbers don't lie. When I'm referring to battery liife, I'm talking about constant heavy usage on a stock phone. When Anand tests battery life he leaves it constantly running, this is the only real way to test real world battery life.

I don't know anyone who picks up their phone in the morning and keeps it in their hands, constantly using it all day long. People have jobs, school, lives, etc, and my battery usage is exactly that, normal usage on my phone. I took it to work, played with it, took some calls, texts, alerts, etc. I consider that "normal" usage.

EDIT: LOL. that link also has them running android 2.1. I'm using 2.21 with a custom rom and set cpu. In addition, there is a known bug with the stock evo battery/charge mechanism that HTC has addressed in a service bulletin. Its not uncommon for people with normal usage to get 15plus hours out of a stock batter with the stock rom.

Seconded. Anand's tests are good, well put together, and useful for an informed buyer. But lets face facts, typical usage for an individual isn't anything like that. In normal use, you're very rarely going to max out the screen brightness, wifi tether, and stream flash videos until the battery dies. :p

What is "normal" use? Normal use cannot be defined which is why Anand tests the devices on a constant. It's much more accurate to test battery life by running it constantly till it dies vs using the phone off/on throughout the day. I trust Anand numbers more than someone who claims 24hrs and it turns out the user barely uses the device.

I could get great battery life on my iPhone too if I never use it.

What constitutes 'Normal' will vary by the individual, but I can say with certainty that it doesn't involve turning cranking the screen brightness to max, disabling the time out, wifi tethering to a laptop, and streaming videos while playing Hulu on the phone. :p

Like I said, Anand's tests are good, but every phone he tests that way is going to have lower numbers simply before they're being pushed to capacity. Its just not representative at all for typical use. We've already proven several your statements flat out wrong in this thread, such as 'no Android phone gets anywhere close to 24 hours'. Stop harping on what you believe the phone's battery life will be when you know perfectly well that its likely going to have 24hr+ like today's Android phones.

Bingo, stop right there.

There's a reason why Anand tests phone batteries the way he does. Your claim of 24hr battery life is very inconsistent usage especially with variables such as not using your device and underclocking it with setcpu.

I've heard many Android users saying "I get XXhr battery life" claims before and they aren't realistic because everyones' usage is different. Look at all of the claims, they're all different and when I had my EVO, I had different battery life too.

Which then leads me to reading actual controlled tests and reviews, not hearsay from users. I can replicate Anand's battery tests and get similar results, I can't replicate yours.

I don't think its fair to judge a devices 'typical' use when you're pushing it to the gills either. Its good to know how it will perform under those conditions, but I'm not going to buy a laptop based solely only how long it can loop 1080p Crysis before the battery dies. :p

Well that's how many devices are tested for battery life because its consistent. You can't get consistency by testing "typical use" because typical use is undefined, so you test all devices the exact same way. Whatever your results on the constant, its safe to assume the battery life in phone A is better/worse than phone B.
