Even historically that word isn't offensive, it's just a neutral descriptor. No more offensive than seeing "blanco". Although now that I mentioned the word, white people should be up in arms.

So I got to hold the G2 today at the store. The buttons on the back are nothing like the pictures on Anandtech's mini review. The power button is not surrounded surrounded by the volume rocker. In fact it's three separate buttons and it's impossible to tell them apart just by feeling with your fingertip. The center button is someone recessed so you can give a best guess as to which button you are pressing. Still, it's an amazing phone. The screen is just ridiculously awesome to behold.

The back is a fingerprint magnet which is too be expected, and the phone is about as thick as my droid bionic, but with that batter I'm willing to accept the increased size.

I held the droid ultra also. It's ridiculously thin, but the screen isn't as impressive as the G2, and it's also a fingerprint magnet.

Because it was the wrong language.
It was incorrect because of the language, but I'm sure the fear of misinterpretation is an additional reason to remove it. So basically yes it deserved to be removed to begin with, but it was even more important to remove it due to possible misunderstandings.

Wrong language isn't the ONLY reason it's removed.

Anyway, this phone looks pretty good so far. Efficient battery. The camera's much improved too. As for how this impacts the Nexus? Well panorama's governed by the AOSP camera anyway, so unless that improves, we won't have 60 MP panoramas like the GS4 either. Overall it looks good, although it scored low on speaker volume on GSMArena. I'd say I'm pretty excited for the Nexus 5 in that case except for the 2300 mAh.

VulgarDisplay - Did you play with the ATT or VZW version? The back buttons are different, see comparison here - http://www.droid-life.com/2013/09/11/video-att-lg-g2-vs-verizon-lg-g2/

Thanks for the link, I didn't not know the phone comes in different form(if not in its entirety), wonder how Sprint version of this phone will look?, will they opt for same buttom implementation as GSM/Internatinal variants or they also mess it up as verizon?. Why in the hell Verizon felt the need to change button layout, it looks ugly & not as usable as in the GSM/International versions.

Why would they put the power button between the volume buttons? That's just dumb, IMHO.

Hmm.. Looking at the pics again, LG did away with the button layout they used on Optimus G? I thought that layout made more sense than Samsung's in that the 'Back' button is to the left of 'Home' button. And you get more usable screen estate.

They went with software buttons, which is great because it allowed for really small top and bottom bezels.

It's likely due to the wireless charging which only the Verizon version has. The AT&T version looks like the power button is slightly raised which would elevate the back of the phone making wireless charging impossible. The version version the power button is indented allowing the back of the phone to lay flat.

But then doesn't that mean the volume buttons will be triggered accidentally? I believe that's the whole reason why the standard version has the power button slightly raised.

Depends what you want.

Its a damn good phone though and hits most points for most people.

HTC One is the one if you want a solid aluminium body.
S4 if you want extra storage.
N5 if you can wait and want the "Nexus experience"
Note 3 if you can wait and want a big screen and digitiser.

Its a good time to be into Android phones, theres a bunch of great ones to choose from.

Look at it this way. Even the current best Android phones (GS4, HTC One) are better as Google Play Editions.

Don't underestimate the impact that stock Android can have on things like battery life, performance and usability.

yeah I agree but if its rooted does it matter? Just run custom rom?

Only android I have is N7 (first gen)... so its somewhat new to me. Been iPhone since original (I think android has caught up... almost) haha

You might feel like this, but some people like Touchwiz or Sense. Some people like a more featured camera app. Some people also like the OEM optimizations that Google won't put in such as network batching.

The GS4 versus GS4 GPE isn't the same comparison as Optimus G versus Nexus 4. The Nexus 4 compromised a lot compared to the Optimus G.

On contract, this should be among the firsts that I would consider. I really want to hear from end user reports about it first, though. (esp. battery) I haven't seen this phone yet but spent some time with Optimus G Pro and I did like it quite a bit. It's not as crazy as Touchwiz but not as barren as Sony's launcher. LG's launcher looks as if it copied good stuff from Samsung/Sony's and left out the bads.

Honestly for me the only downside to getting the G2 is the opportunity cost. If I get it that means I don't get the Note 3, which I really want too!

Decisions, decisions. :hmm:

Specs wise, it looks like the best normal sized Android phone out right now. Snapdragon 800, 5.2" new LG IPS 1080P screen, 32gb storage, 13 mp camera with optical stabilization, and 3000mah battery. If I was buying Android phone on contract, G2 would be my top choice.
