Self-healing doesn't interest me because I doubt it works as well as they would like you to think (calling it that certainly sounds appealing to their marketing people, I bet).

The curvature is more favorable than the Galaxy Round.
In profile the curvature on this makes it look like a katana - if LG is smart they will draw the comparison in advertising. The ergonomic benefit isn't enough to push curvature, since curved body phones do just as much as curving the glass. At least with this model it makes a little more sense in landscape mode than tbe Round.

A Katana is Japanese. Unless advertising in the Japanese market I don't think a Korean company wants anything to do with that!

What is a katana?

I am guessing he means the curve of a Japanese sword.

Yes, katana, the curved traditional Japanese sword, not Kitana from Mortal Kombat. :D

LG does sell to a lot of countries outside of their home market. But the imagery of a katana is associated with precision craftsmanship, too, not just as a weapon. If the name Katana hadn't already been used by a manufacturer I would have suggested that they named it the LG Katana, but as usual these companies tend to pick names that aren't as striking. G Flex...

I doubt most people would expect it to heal any kind of massive gauge or other type of scraping, but if it's good enough to handle the kinds of scuffs that it would pick up from being in a pocket or purse with coins, keys, or other similar items that are known to cause dings and scratches, I think it will be good enough.

I don't know if these features will translate into success, but it's nice to see a company doing something fresh on the hardware side beyond a teaser video about what a device will be like in five to ten years.

People complain that the Samsungs feel cheap because the plastic bends and creaks if you apply enough pressure. I'm not sure I want my entire phone to be able to do that.

If its curved I do, otherwise its going to crack pretty quickly.

It's a cute gimmick, but I'm not sure the interest would last. It needs a killer app, something functional that a bendy phone can do that others can't.

Meh. Until I can drop my phone on it's edge and the screen doesn't crack I'm not impressed. I hate taking a thin and light smart phone and having to put a huge Otterbox over it which makes it bulkier than a phone made in 1988.
A self-healing back cover is okay, make the screen self-healing and that's much more useful.
