A lot of these faster burn speed specs are malarky...They only
burn at the listed speed over a small portion of the CD...For most
of the CD, they are burning at a much lower speed...So you won't
see anything close to the improvement you might expect based on the
rated speed.
E.g. you can burn a CD with a 12x burner in around 7 minutes, including
overhead (closing the CD, initializing the burn, etc.) These 32x burners
are talking about 4 minutes. 12/32 =! 4/7. Not even close.
I have found that all the burners past the 12x series have offered
diminishing returns...They are faster, but not even close to as fast
as their advertised speeds might make you believe. I see no compelling
reason for most people to upgrade from a 12x burner, if they have
a 12x burner they're happy with.
