LG DVD-ROM drive on Compaq Presario notebook reads DVDs, but not CDs

Hi,

a strange thing: as I wrote in the title, I have a Compaq Presario 2700EA model notebook. It has a LG DVD drive DRN 8080B and a Toshiba CDR/RW SR-C8002. LG works flawlessly with DVD-ROMs, but doesn't read any CDs (CD, CDR, CDRW, UDF etc.).

Does someone have a clue?

I don't know too much about optical drives, but from what I have heard there are different lasers for CD's and DVD's. If this is the case, then it is possible that the laser responsible for reading CD's is defective.
