Lexus/Infiniti >>> Acura

I was shopping for a TSX so I took my family with me to the Acura dealer.

We checked out the whole lineup of cars there just for fun before sitting down with the sales guy to talk numbers on the TSX/TL (who was a d!ck).
Having been in friends' Acura's before, it was pretty much as expected. My parents and sisters were somehwat impressed. They liked the TL a lot; most notably the interior design - the materials were nice, nothing spectacular.

But the RL was unimpressive. The exterior was bleh and I don't get all the praise the interior gets. Everyone says the interior uses top-notch materials, but the cheap plastics were quite prevalent (door handle, center armrest, center console stack).

Since the salesguy was such an ass, we left and went to the Infiniti dealership and it was a totally different experience.
We sat in the G35 sedan and felt it was a step above Acura's offerings. I think a lot of it had to do with the roominess of the cars itself.
Whereas all the Acura's felt cramp in the rear, the G35 felt spacious. My parents were wowed by the reclining rear seats. The leather was softer and felt more rich than the TSX/TL.
The materials around the dash and doors were about the same quality, but the finish wasn't as nice as Acura's. The wood trim was peeling around the dash area and the design is not as modern.

The G35c was gorgeous but not in consideration because of size. Anyone taller than 5'10 will bump their heads on the rear glass.

We then stepped into the M and it was a totally different world above the Acura's and the G35. The interior of this car is absolutely amazing. Plush leather all over, roomy backseat. It made my parents completely forget about the G35 and Acura.
Suddenly the TSX felt very crappy 😛
For that reason, after leaving Infiniti, we felt that it was a tier above Acura.

We then hopped over to Lexus across the street to check out the IS250 and while I don't like the exterior, the interior is probably the best compared to the TL/TSX/G35. The dark, glossy wood trim makes the car interior look very classy. Good materials all over (except the door handles - seems to be a big offender across all makes).
The only issue with this car (aside from subjective dislikes) is backseat room. There is absolutely no leg room in the back.
And forget about sitting anyone in the middle. The driveshaft takes up all the leg space and the raised hump in the seat brushes my head against the roof (I'm 5'8").
It's really more a 4 seater than a 5 seater.
That alone caused the IS to drop off my list of possible cars.

I really wanted to sit inside a GS but there were none on the showroom floor so we left and went to another Acura dealership where I proceeded to buy an '06 TSX, my first new car 😀

Welcome to what everyone else already knows. Ive been driving my Integra for about 10 years now, can't wait to trade it in within the next three years.

One thing to say about acura though, ive love their service. (it definately varies from dealer to dealer, but the one my dad goes to is top notch).

😛

Yeah, it's what I could afford with a $30k budget.
Nothing in the "luxury" class can match the value that you get with Acura's, as far as options and service.
I would've gone for the G35C if I didn't have to chauffeur people around, not to mention it's $35k pre-tax.

it's a well known fact that bmw's pleather is less plasticky than acura's 'leather'

I would agree that Lexus/Infinti>>>>Acura, although I'm quite sure that Acura makes good cars...........it's just that they're unimpressive.

Why even buy an Acura??

Lexus definitely needs to address the size issue in the IS series. I'd imagine the new ES series will solve for this prob, but in this current block of several months....(until 07's arrive).....the *hip* crowd will have nothing to shop for in the Lexus lineup as the GS are usually out of the price range for folks in this range and the IS is really catering to small, young, yuppy-type who would otherwise buy a BMW 3 or something.

The new Camry will probably be awesome, but some folks have to have that L or 8 or A emblem on the car to consider owning it. For them, the ES is gonna need to step up big to fill the gap between the I & G series.

Do I have to bring the car to the same dealership I bought from for service or can I go to any Acura dealer?
The local dealership is only 5 miles away but I didn't buy from them because of the salesman.
The dealer I bought from is 20 miles away.

I live in NJ too, and I simply must know. What dealer sucked, and what dealer nailed the sale?

BTW, welcome to the Acura family!!🙂

<---TL owner, who's still waiting for someone to show him a better deal in the 31K range.

Overall, Lexus has the best interior, IMO, not that it matters to me, since all of them are priced above what I could afford.

why can't we have more car posts like this??? I enjoyed reading that, it gives you somethign to think about, and presents a constructive analysis of the cars. Most of what i read on here is 'Brand A sux ballz0rz compared to Brand B because...because...they suck'.

Have you seen the videocard threads, or anything that one thing vs another. Know-it-alls around here (embarassingly me included, actually I've done it sarcastically so it's not too bad) think that they know what's best for everybody.

Welcome to the Acura Mafia, I am the proud owner of a RSX-S (2005 model, bought in 9/2004), which has been great so far. I was also considering the TSX at the time and sometimes I wish I had bought that instead! Good luck with your new ride 🙂

Open Road Acura in East Brunswick lost me as a customer because of a pushy salesman.
Initially he was friendly and professional as he took me out on a test drive. I let him spew his sales pitch without interrputing or correcting his technical errors.
When it came down to talking price, I told him I was still cross-shopping a few other cars and wasn't exactly ready to buy today.
He was supposed to look for leftover '05 TSX in the exact configuration I wanted but he was reluctant to do so unless I committed at that moment, implying I was not worth his time.

I then read on the Acura forums that some guy was getting basically $300 over invoice on the '06 TSX from Springfield Acura and went to Bridgewater Acura to do a PM 😛
He told me from the start he couldn't as good as that but would try to come as close as possible. He gave me the keys to the TSX and let me go without him accompanying me which was cool. At the end of the day, although I could've gotten a slightly better price, he got the sale because of his professionalism.

You should be able to take it to any Acura dealer for service.

Acura dealer we went to was nice, TSX was a nice car as well. But I doubt I would purchase one. I think I would have looked in to BMW's 3 series, believe their around the same price but cant say for sure Iv dropped it from my interest list.

Man thats wierd... I was at Bridgewater Acura this morning hoping for a test of the TSX. They didn't have any of the 2006s yet and the only 2005 left were stick. I unfortunately do not know how to drive 😉.

Also who did you speak to? PM me if you think they are lurking on atot.

you considered a G35 coupe and turned it down because no rear headroom, but didn't look at a G35 sedan? 😕

Interesting reading. I looked back and forth between Acura and Lexus for quite some time. Finally decided that Lexus was significantly better, but I couldn't afford a new one. The result: I bought a used Lexus. Less than half it's original price with 42k miles on it. Since it is a certified vehicle, it came with a three year, 100,000 mile warranty. I haven't regretted it for a minute. It's a great car.

PM'd ya.
The tester I drove was an '05 manual so they weren't lying to you as far as I know.

Woah, hey, you guys are in my area (I live just south of Bridgewater in Hillsborough). And I just happened to be test-driving an Acura today too. 🙂 It's used though... '03 TL Type-S.

(Oh hey - does anyone know what octane that takes? 🙂)
