I'd suggest the Epson 860. Outpost.com has it for $129 - $50 rebate (MIR) then free shipping, and ebates discount!

Yes Lexmarks have expensive ink. The problem with most Epsons is that the print heads are integral to the printer, not the cartridge.

From the reviews I have read, after about six months your print quality takes a dive because the print heads start wearing out. At least with the Lexmark you get new heads with each cartridge. If price is that much of a concern, there are lots of places to buy refurbished cartridges or ink refill kits.

It's not on Costco's web site. I saw it on display in one of the Seattle area stores. I don't know if it is in stores elsewhere.

Check it peeps. Lexmark printers are some of the best printers on the market, and they are pretty damn fast, too. You complain about expensive cartridges? Get a refill kit. That's what i use, they are like $10 for two refills. I'd say that's pretty damn cheap. Costco's price on this can't be beat unless they offer a rebate (which Lexmark hardly ever does on new printers). So stop whinning and buy the damn thing. Then do a search in yahoo's shopping arena for "lexmark z42 refills" and you should be able to find some deals on refill kits. Ciao

There are tons of refill kits for the Z42 on the online auction circuit. You can get several refills for both color and black cartidges for less that the price of one new one.

I tried to refill the color cartridge for my Lexmark printer, but it doesn't work because there is no place to drill three holes to access the color ink. Kinda funny how the price of two cartridges = a new printer.
