First, I hate lexmark and the MAN for the expensive carts, but if you can live with it and print sparingly, here goes:

Go to staples and search for item 499860

1. 96899 is the coupon code that STAPLES.com lists on its site for the printer. This is a public code and is on staples.com website for all to use.
2. If you search google for staples coupons you can find several sites that have decent $ off codes. I used a $20 off $100 and bought some crap to pad the bill.
3. There is a $40 Staples rebate listed on the page where you buy the printer

$110 (pad the bill to get over $110 because you have to exceed $100 for the second coupon) - 40 - 10 - 20 = $40 w/free shipping for the printer and $30 worth of stuff form staples. I usually buy toilet tissue - hey it's better than carrying it home.

$110 - $10 printer coupon
$100 - 20 coupon = 80
$80 -40 rebate = $40, but you get $20 worth of stuff you would already buy.

From comment below:

>>Have you actually done this deal? Staples doesn't let you simultaneously use the $10 IR coupon and then the $20 off $100 coupn even when you add filler to get the net order over $100. By using the $10 IR coupon, the printer's cost is precluded from reaching the $100 threshold. In other word if you use the $10 IR code, you must add another $100 to the order to use the $20 off $100 coupon.

Rookie ... :) Yes. Email staples and tell them that the IR coupon is a *product specific* coupon, NOT a dollars off coupon. THus satisfyin their rules:

Lexmark should be avoided at all costs, even if free.
They are the lowest of lows.
Many unsuspecting buyers think they are getting a good deal, only to be royally ripped off on refills.
When other manufacturers ink (Epson or Canon for example), can be found for under $3 black or color
(megatoners.com), it shows how bad Lexmark really is when they are charging $30 to $40 for ink.

Lexmark sues to stop cheap ink refills
Lexmark is using the new Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) to rip off customers.
Following taking from above link:

"Imagine a Dell computer that would work only with Dell-branded monitors, or a General Motors
car that wouldn't move if you installed tires, filters or even headlight bulbs lacking the GM brand."

Lexmarks actions may cause all ink prices to skyrocket.
Do not let them get away with this practice.
Don't mean to thread crap, but this company is crap.
Spread the word..

OK, I have a Lexmark x83 multifunction and it works well, especially when copying. Yes, the carts are expensive AND the color cart I bought 3 months ago just went bad, even though I have less then 20 pages on it. If Lexmark is so bad what does everyone else recommend? I am looking for reasonably good print quality, multifunction (need print/copy) and yes, it would be great if I could get cheap carts (as in refills). Any help is appreciated, my Lexmark only prints in B/W now ... Grrrr

If you're looking for an all in one printer, I would recommend an HP or maybe even a Canon.

Dud - I noticed that no one else gave any specifics with regard to an option. A better reply would be XXXX model is good at $xx.xx price and the refills are $xxx.xx

I'm curious to thosde inkjet users out there what's the best bang for the buck printer? I have a z11 and a laser and rarely use the z11.

I refill my Lexmark Z43 cartridges, and everything has been fine (a little messy, but doesn't take that long)

My Wal-mart is clearing out Lexmark photo packs: a black cartridge, color cartridge, photo paper, and software for $48. This is warm . . . but since my wife will charge her boss (rightly so) for the cartridge for all the printing she does, that makes $48-$48=$0. Even better . . . but definitely YMMV on this one. ;)

I was tempted by a recent super hot deal <<$ 50.00 on Lexmark x75 because I was looking to upgrade from my 300X600 visohneer scanner and my can bjc6000 inkjet . I decided against if because of the price of the carts ( you can only refill so many ( 4 or 5 ?) times and also I really hate to support a company that is going after the uh aftermarket supply industry /

I refill my carts too. Lots of cheap ink out there. I think I paid $25 for a PINT of black in, $12 for 3 4oz bottles of color ink. Don't remember were so don't pm, but search and you will find it. Probably several threads on here and FatWalnut about this. Easy to refill and no little electronic dohickys preventing you from refilling.

I bought a refill kit to fill the carts for the x83. The whole process has never worked ... just another waste of time and money.

Yea right you idiot...like anyone here would buy the ink RETAIL! Canon and Epsons ink is cheaper because they don't include a printhead on the cartridge where Lexmark and HP does. Have fun when the Epson printhead dries up.

I have the Z52. Great fast printer. Carts are $30 a peice (average) for retail. $22 for generic. Generic are very hard to find though. And with the lawsuit pending, probably impossible very soon. Dont get on his case about this. I just bought a new RETAIL black and color, and the 'included' printhead on the cart for the black just locked up. And now the color is saying the yellow has dried up even though the blue and red are still half full. Refilling is not a great idea either. After one refill, the printhead starts getting all messed up.

My advice, get an HP. Ive never ever heard anyone bitch about anything when it came to HP printers. But then again, I dont get out much..............

Why buy cartridges, Lexmark's are among the easiest to refill. Or just wait for a deal to pop up and replace the entire unit. (complete printers are often cheaper than the included cartridges like the deal highlighted in this thread.)

I've got an el cheopo z22, I print about 20pages per day, and cartriges last over 3 mo. I had an older hp(cartriges were actually higher than the lexmarks) and for the same amout of printing the carts only lasted a little over 2 mo.

6 of 1 1/2doz. of the other.

btw I hate hp printers, low quality by comparison to epson or lexmark they may say 1200x1200, but my older z12 at 1200-600 was of far higher print quality.
