I just did this without any problems:

Buy.com has the Lexar 128MB USB JumpDrive for $49.12 with free shipping. Staples.com has it for $76.99. I used a $15 off $75 coupon making it $61.99 and after the 110% pricematch to buy.com it becomes $28.99. On buy.com there is a link to a $20 rebate directly from Lexar and there are no restriction on stores. Finnal price for me was $8.99 + taxes on $28.99 price.

Some things to point out the Staples CSR if they give you problems with the pricematch:

- at buy.com there's free shipping, shipps 24-48 hours
- at Staples.com this item is shown as ships in 3-5 days, so they shouldn't charge you shipping
- if they try to make fuss about the coupon, point out to them that buy.com has a $20 rebate and they don't, which more than compensates for the coupon

I didn't have to argue at all, everything went very smoothly for me. I got the $15 off $75 in the mail, but I'm sure your favourite coupon sites will have plenty of those.

Couldn't you just pricematch to buy.com without using a coupon? You'd actually save a little bit more money with the 110% pricematch.

You lucked out then, because Staples has officially stopped price matching to internet stores as of last month.

PM to buy.com w/ 110%, then apply the coupon. =)

that's even more savings.

ziptree, yes, this is what I did. They pricematched their original price ($30 after 110%), without any hesitation. In fact, they didn't mention the coupon at all. So I took advantage of the coupon, pricematch to the original price ($77 versus $49), and then the $20 rebate. I don't see how you can do it any better, but I'm open to suggestions :)

vetteguy, Staples _B&M _ stopped pricematching internet stores. Staples.com never did.

err woops, sorry about the empty post (first timer here)

I hate to ask stupid questions, but I'm *REALLY* interested in one of these pen drives. So what exactly is it that I do? I print out the buy.com webpage, and then take it into staples? Tell them I want the 110 percent deal, and get it for 28.99, and then do the mail in rebate? Or do I somehow order it from staples.com and then call them up on the 800 number?

Sorry.. just confused, any help would be appreciated!

Neils, as vetteguy pointed out, Staples stores no longer pricematch Internet stores (although you may luck out). I did everything through the web site: placed an order (using the $15 off $75 coupon), and after 10 min or so called the Staples customer service and requested pricematch against buy.com's price. I told them to go to buy.com, search for Lexar 128MB, they verified the price and availability, and refunded me the $30 diffrence.

That seems like fuzzy math.

$76.99 - $49.12 = $27.87 (100% of difference). $27.87 * 110% = $30.66 (110% of difference). $76.99 - $30.66 = $46.33 (price before rebate). $46.33 - $20.00 = $26.33 (price after rebate).

Using the $15 coupon should have cost you more.

$76.99 - $15.00 = $61.99 (price after coupon). $61.99 - $49.12 = $12.87 (100% of difference). $12.87 * 110% = $14.16 (110% of difference). $61.99 - $14.16 = $47.83 (price before rebate). $47.83 - $20.00 = $27.83 (price after rebate).

Dunno how you figured that out...

parrotx, I beleive I mentioned above that Staples pricematched against their ORIGINAL price of $76.99, not against the after-coupin price. They did not mention the coupon at all. Please read what I wrote.

yep, previous poster did it right the final price calculated in the topic is about 15$ off. Not to mention they will take the coupon off the order, once it will decrease by the amount of the PM. So you'll have to use a smaller coupon. The error in original calculation is he counted the 110% PM from 61$ to 49$ as bringing the price to 28$, which is a 300% pricematch, way to go :)

Well, I'm tired of explaining the obvious: my CSR did NOT pay any attention to the coupon, did NOT remove it prior to the pricematch, and as I said in my first post, you can always point out to them that buy.com has a $20 rebate which they don't have and which is more than the coupon. I gave in that post some talking points if you happen to get an obstinate CSR. For the final time, here is what I paid, this was DONE and is not a theoretical pricematch:

$76.99 - $15 (coupon) - $30.66 (110% pricematch) - $20 (rebate) = $11.33 + taxes on the price before rebate. In my original post I said $8.99 by mistake (it included the tax on the pricematch).

come one guys, read! it's pretty clear what the original poster stated. his csr probably forgot/screwed up and did not mention the coupon used. let's leave 'em alone. tks for the deal!

Wait till you get all the paperwork, 90% garantee they will remove the coupon afterwards... Happened before. The deal is basically to find a clueless CSR...

Out of countless pricematches with Staples I never had a case where a coupon was removed prior to a PM :) They tried a few times (VERY few) but I never had a problem talking them out of it :)
