Let's use prisons in redistricting because the blacks there can't vote

TALLAHASSEE — In a private gathering during last month’s Republican Party of Florida quarterly meeting, state Rep. Janet Adkins told a group of North Florida GOP activists that the key to defeating Corrine Brown, a black Jacksonville Democrat, is boosting the number of black prisoners in her district.

“You draw [Brown's seat] in such a fashion so perhaps, a majority, or maybe not a majority, but a number of them will live in the prisons, thereby not being able to vote,” said Adkins, a Nassau County Republican, referring to black residents.

Those comments came during a closed-door meeting of the North Florida Republican caucus. POLITICO Florida obtained audio of her comments.

She called it the “perfect storm” for being able to defeat Brown, a liberal firebrand who has been in Congress for 23 years.

Her comments came after making sure no reporters were in the room.

“Let me give you inside ball game. Are there any reporters in here?” she said. “Any reporters? OK. So, inside ball game.”

That's the inside ball game people.

How can anyone support that party? It's not like this is a one off either.

Conservative leaning folks would have a better chance of getting their policies through by voting for dems and putting pressure on them instead of supporting these slimy fucks.

That's what the GOP is all about. They refuse to represent the people, so when they can't get votes they have to game the system. Then, when the Dems push policies that the people do support, the GOP characterizes it as giving handouts for votes, and stupid conservatives nod their heads like the good little ditto-heads they are.

Florida, full of snow birds, retirees, and those that couldn't make it in the other 49 states.

Drug Dealer: Hey man, are you a cop?

Undercover Cop: Me? A cop? No way, man, I'm cool.

Drug Dealer: Cool.
^_^

ETA: It's a pity we can't put politicians in jail (or otherwise render them more or less harmless and out of the way) for being dumb the way we do drug dealers for same...:\

Again, desperate times require desperate measures.

Should be interesting to see if Adkin's scheme gets integrated into the overall plan the Repubs have so far deployed toward "winning elections without actually winning them".

Remember; the main problem here is pointing out this behavior, not the behavior itself.

OP, you should be ashamed for speaking / discussing this.

A person's voting district should be set by the physical location of their place of residence. Period. No rigging should be possible whatsoever. It would be very easy to write a simple algorithm that calculates each person's distance from the center of their district, and places everyone in the proper district based on a combination of population balancing and distance. Those being the ONLY two factors in the calculation. Voting districts would be simply a series of overlapping perfect circles, expanding inversely proportional to the populations within. Heavily populated districts would be smaller, and have small circles. Lesser populated districts would be larger, and would be overlapped by the smaller ones. It is very simple, completely just, and impossible to rig.

Reform Congress and use county lines for districts?
I think that may be the best solution. Although the point of gerrymandering obstensibly is giving blacks more political power, in practice it is always used by the dominant party to enhance and increase that power.
