Tateman1 -- one vote of 10 won't make Zuni's vote jump. Plus it went lower cuz someone voted another number other than was told. In any case, I can't sleep till I figure this out so here goes (again)...

...and thanks to all who are bearing with me :)

in order for Zuni's rating to go to a 6, 10 votes of 10 need to be made. how did i get to 10 votes?

here are our variables
target average rating = 6
current average rating = 5
current number of votes = 41
# of votes for the current to become our target = n

6 = 205/41 + 10/n

6 = 5 + 10/n

6 - 5 = 10/n

n = 10

so, it would take 10 users who vote a rating of 10, to make Zuni's rating jump from a 5 to 6.

Russ...

Yes, but I had to type my original reply, wait for the entire thread to download (I view with most recent posts at the bottom 'cause the other way around confuses the hell outta me), click edit, type my reply, & THEN post it.

But yes, you beat me on that one.

Lucky draw.

;)

You're making a fatal assumption: You're assuming that the scoring IS working correctly, which it obviously is not.

Elfenix has an interesting experiment going. So far at 4 votes he's still at 8. When it changes will tell us something, I think. Of course this is dependant on everyone cooperating with us.

Now that I think about it, I've got a hunch that the software is ignoring the zero. Zuni when he was at 38 with a rating of 5:

Starting point: An 8 with 20 raters, or 160 raw

(38-20) 18 x 1 = 18 plus 160 =

178 divided by 38 = 4.68, rounded, that's 5.

But it works to a point, at 5 votes ElFenix was still at 8...

Wonder if it switches at 10?

Viper,

I believe that what is happening is that when a user grants a 10, the software is not seeing the zero and is recording a 1 instead. That assumption works perfectly to explain the drop in Zuni's rating.

But, it appears that it only begins happening at a certain number of ratings.

But people's ratings start out high, like Adul's did. He started out at 10, then dropped to 5 like he should have when I gave him a one. So it seems to work at first, then goes haywire when more votes are cast.

RaDragon...

G'Night, hope you can sleep even though you didn't get it solved yet...

maybe it works like the internet worm, the count is right next to the rating in memory so when the count reaches a certain number of binary digits it pushes into the other memory space or something... yeah...

just for the record i'm at 7 votes with 8 rating.

Without regard for the precise nature of the problem, I think it's safe to say that we've established that there is a problem.

Well damn. Looks like these guys need a SQL programmer.

If Fusetalk needs a kickass SQL programmer, I'm your man. Just let me know.

Gave ElFenix an 8, average is still 8 with 10 votes. Gave Zuni a 10, and now the average is a 2.

I gave a 10, it's at 2 now.

You guys are putting way too much effort into figuring this out. It's obviously flawed. Just move along, notify the developers, etc ;)
