I'm thinking of going to eb this week and droping a pre-order so I can start playing in the head start. I've played in the open beta and personally liked it very much, not as polished as I'd like it to be but lets be honest NO MMO WILL BE AT LAUNCH.

Pro's:
Graphics
Combat
Story

Con's:
Maybe too solo friendly for some
Group finding
Load times
Poor performance on some PC's (mainly vista systems)

Those are just what I saw however I still feel the game deserves a go. I've been looking for an MMO after WoW and I never wanna go back to WoW. What are some of your opinions?

I played the game and it just felt hollow. Maybe I am jaded but other then the nice graphics and button smashing combos I couldn't get into the game world at all.

really felt like your average MMO with annoying combat to me. I was really looking forward to the game too, because I am a Conan and REH fan.

I had been a long time supporter of AoC this past year, but after actually playing it I changed my mind. Looking past the poor performance, which even after this last patch still exists somewhat, I still have a few issues with it:

1) Combat system, though somewhat fun at first, got real old, real quick. Just feels very unnatural and ends up just being button mashing after a while.

2) Loading times are a little out of control. Honestly I have been able to look past the how the game performs, but when it takes over a minute sometimes to load into a zone, thats a little ridiculous.

3) Level 20+ content... though it is there, when you compare it to the content that exists for the 1st 20 levels, the higher level zones feel very lacking.

4) "Massive" PVP Siege battles... This annoyed me more than anything. Up until a week or so ago Devs constantly talked about "hundreds of players" taking part in "massive PVP siege battles." However come to find out this week that for Funcom, "massive" apparently means 48 vs 48. Sorry but under 100 people is far from being "massive."

I think a lot of it boils down to Funcom making a lot of compromises to keep the visuals as they are. I am all for a game looking good and playing good, but when you start removing features just to keep a game looking good, you end up like Crysis: All looks but no game.

Personally I may give this game a try in a month or so, that is unless some more things turn out to be not exactly as Funcom has been leading everyone to believe. Sure, things change as a game is developed, and features have to be removed, however this close to release things sould be pretty set in stone, and not literally change week to week. Hopefully things will improve and this game will turn out well.

Who complains about a monthly fee? Thats like buying a new car and complaining you have to pay for gas. MMOs with the amount of work and money that go into them, such as AoC, will never be free to play.

Because you played a Beta. Simple as that. My preorder download has had 2g of data added to it in the past 2 days. That is after a version of the closed beta got slimmed down into a deployable package and went gold.

You haven't had enough time to even comment on the game world. Sorry.

Mmmhmmm. So you never heard about short cuts and macro keys huh? This game finally makes macro keyboards and game boards worth while. If you want to play it like wow, be my guest.

Beta servers aren't live servers.

Beta content did not have retail content fully implemented. Devs said this multiple times.

The Devs said it will start out with 48 vs 48 on the live servers to ensure they servers don't fall on their face in the first week. Closed Beta saw 150 vs 150 sieges run just fine thank you very much. They will dial it up once they see they have the capacity to do so.

Reads to me, "I like to judge games according to BETA content, because there is no way they can improve things or are holding things back because of it being a BETA."

jeez

I hope you do, I'd like to put a 2H axe in your face or smite you with some form of Holy Damage. If the game sucks because of certain aspects, like world PVP and arena PVP being too much at odds with each other then I'll quit until they dial back arena PVP. But I am going to get a lvl 80 or 2 first. Also, the economy of this game is stellar. PVP loot is pretty much shite but everyone is going to be geared up on it almost definitely.

Thats what everyone says about the next big MMO on the horizon, and history has always proven it not to be the case. When War gets close to release, or enters open/closed beta, we'll see a plethora of people saying that War isn't all that great, is buggy, is laggy, is beta quality, etc.

If age of conan manage to be a flunk.. then at least Tabula Rasa isnt going to be alone in the "uberhyped flunk games list"

lol

now... there is only 2 games that looks promising for the mmo place... well... a few more... but right now there is warhammer... AION... spellborn... and there was one more but is for the 2010.. so lets leave it outside the matter ok

Yeah I'm looking forward to AION, it's probably going to suck, but it looks pretty cool.

Oh, Jumpgate: Evolution is going to be the next best MMO, at least for the people who like space ones. The scale of EVE with the controls of Freelancer.

I've never cared about MMO's. My roommate is getting pretty excited about AoC so we're creating a character for me on his account and I'm gonna try it out. If I like it, I might jump on too. But in truth I doubt my PC can handle it. Despite the fact that everything on my system should be high end enough to play it, my system is extremely buggy for some reason I can't figure out.

I would LOVE it if AOC was a great game. I hope it is. My brother got the early entry thingy, so he can play on May 17.....so in two days I guess i'll have a feel for the game. Honestly, the videos dont impress me. I have a feeling that the combat system is going to get old very quickly, and just become an annoyance.

WAR looks like its shaping up to be a hugely successful game. Ive read about every article on it, and watched every video I can find on the web of it. But we all know, that means squat until you actually get to play the game. But everything they're implementing into the game are things that I look forward in an MMO. All of the complaints I had of WOW, WAR is improving on those...the PVP system for instance.
DAOC to date had one of the best PVP systems IMO with the RVR.

And the fact that they keep pushing WAR back means it'll only be a better game upon release. I'm happy as hell they're taking their time, getting out all the bugs, to make sure when it hits the shelves, its actually playable. For some reason I keep hearing the opposite of AOC...as far as system requirements/loading times.

Only time will tell, but from all of the hands on reviews and videos ive seen, WAR really seems like its going to be huge...and the fact that they have a very large following both with the Warhammer storyline, and DAOC, i'm pretty sure its not going to fall flat on its face....

hehe I played LOTRO for like a month...couldnt get into it all...but I also didnt have high expectations at all about it. It was about as good as I figured it would be.

I played WOW for 3 years and loved it...but the endgame was pathetic. Since I didnt have the time to spend 18 hours a day in a raiding guild, there went PVE. Since I didnt have 18 hours a day to PVP to get a high rank, there went that.

I don't care which game it is, whether its AOC, WAR, or whatever, I would love to be able to find another MMO that I enjoyed as much as WOW in the earlier days.

IMO its going to be WAR, because the gameplay looks more suited to what I look for in a game...but I wont know until I play both of them...

You're very serious about this AOC game aren't ya ?

Man people really get into these games, its amazing.

I mean I played wow for countless hours, had lvl 60's and such...but you are acting like they just insulted you're mother....

Take a breath and chill out man.

Say it with me now. "It's just a game. It's just a game."

I downloaded the early start data for most of the last 20 hours. At one point I had a 5.5 kb/sec download speed and the timer said 31 weeks 3 days until complete :)

I played Everquest for over two years until my life and wife couldn't stand it anymore. I"m hoping AoC will be a little more friendly to those of us with jobs, families, friends etc. Maybe I'm getting too old, but some of us can only play a few hours at a time and not every day. I still have fond memories of EQ, of course. I'm just not sure if I'm glorifying the days when I had less time demands on me.

Let's hope it doesn't disappoint.

You might want to check out LOTRO then, its the best mmo for casuals. I dont think AOC will cater to the casual crowd
