I watched The "Mysterious Cities of Gold" and "You Can't Do That on Television" before "Nicktoons" existed.

I also remember "Inspector Gadget," "Heathcliff & Friends," and "Count Duckula."

Those were '80s... as was "Hey, Dude!"

"Hey, Dude" was definitely '90's. It's pretty obvious. You shouldn't even have to bother looking it up.

Nope. I *DID* look it up. Started in the 80's just like Duckula... AND just like I remembered. It's why the 3D horseshoe impressed me. Only got one additional season.

I certainly haven't! Double Dare, Family Double Dare, Super Sloppy Double Dare, I loved it ALL. I kinda didn't like seeing Mark Summers in "What Would You Do?" though... just wasn't as fun.

If it came out in the second half of '89 and lasted until some time in '91, most episodes aired in the '90's.

Makes it a '90's show IMO.

Heh, I vaguely remember a few of those shows. I only got to watch them occasionally as my dad was the only one with cable, so generally every other weekend in the morning I could watch them.

Nope. There's a reason kid's shows stick to the standard 65-episode guideline. Enough episodes are initially made to start the series for an intended 13-week cycle of daily syndication (5 days a week). If it's popular/successful/accepted, they get "renewed" to a second season that is usually much shorter (just enough to reach 65 episodes; the minimum for syndication). It usually ends RIGHT THERE. The vast majority of episodes were produced in the 80s before even the first was aired.

The typical 2-season kids show gets a three volume DVD because of the disproportionate impalance of episodes. Take nearly any random kid's show from back then and look at how long it took to air both seasons... TaleSpin for example. Yup! Started in September and ended in August of the next year. The first and second season were aired entirely within 365 days. No one could animate that fast. Granted, Hey Dude! wasn't animated, but it was intended as a 65 episode kid's show that needed the bulk of the series complete before it was picked up by a customer (Nick) and aired.

Some of the happiest memories of my life were when I was about 6 or 7 years old. I'd spend my summer days outside in the pool, and then I'd come back inside with damp shorts on, sit in the air conditioned living room, and watch Nickelodeon for the rest of the night, or play Super Nintendo. And I'm not sure why, but to this day (now 24), I still love wearing damp shorts all day after swimming. Reminds me so much of my childhood. No matter what I'm doing, I often refuse to change out of my wet shorts, and just let em dry throughout the course of the day.

Shows like Rocko's Modern Life, and the absolute lack of anything similar for today's youth, make me realize we had it made with a non-pussified America, whereas kids today are all going to be awfully disturbed by time they reach adulthood.

Started with shows like Pinwheel, David the Gnome, and Eurekas Castle. Of course all the gameshows / variety shows like You Can't Do That on Television, Double Dare, etc. Other shows after that, many: Clarissa, Pete and Pete, Salute your Shorts, Are you Afraid of the Dark, Doug, Rocco, Ren and Stimpy, so many I can't recall them all. I was a huge Nick / Snick fan growing up.

Never had cable so I've never seen any of these shows... most I haven't even heard of. I knew about Ren & Stimpy but never saw it.

However, I will say that pretty much every time I've tried to re-watch old cartoons from my childhood, I've been sorely disappointed. They really are only enjoyable if you're 8 years old.

Salute Your Shorts and Rocko's Modern Life were awesome. Legends of the Hidden Temple also.

Also liked Rocket Power, Wild Thornberrys (crazy kid was awesome) and Recess (well.. not Nickelodeon, but still). Yes, those last three are in the wrong decade, but I still enjoyed them.
