Ok, I went through this entire thread. I visited the website. I looked at the pictures and I read the information about the car.

I still don't understand what all the fuss is about...?

See above, Swift+ = Chevy Aveo :p

- M4H

Op wanted a Swift with 1.6, Swift plus is 1598cc... I call that close enough.

I agree, my point is why drive to Canada to buy an Aveo when he can get one locally? :p

- M4H

The man wants a Suzuki Swift, not a Chevy Aveo. Who am I to argue?

Exactly. Who wants to drive a filthy domestic? That's not gonna score any cool points...

Me either...looks like a tiny box on wheels.

I've seen grocery carts with bigger wheels.

Those cars are very popular in NZ. I'm surprised they are not available in USA. I guess it's because yank are too hung up on the "macho" paradigm when it comes to car ownership.

No - we just haven't had a need for them. We don't need compact cars, because the vast majority of the country isn't as densely populated as the rest of the world. Our cities are modern, and spaced out - the even the biggest of vehicles have no problem getting around. Not to mention the cheap gas prices (which are still cheap, compared to the rest of the world).

That's one of the odder arguments i've ever seen as to why yanks love SUVs and HUUGE sedans ;)

FYI, much of the rest of the developed world has cities of similar street dimensions ;)

Try driving a Hummer H2 around Europe, or even in Asia - tell me how well it fits ;)

Last time i visited the UK the roads seemed pretty normal, and as far as i'm aware most of Europe is pretty normal too ;)

Then there's Australia, New Zealand, most of Africa, the Middle East, Russia...hmm ;)

Dug - have you sent any time in the US outside of major metropolitan areas? I've lived in Panama, Turkey, and Germany, and I find it hard to believe their roads or transit systems could support the myriad of Hummer sized SUVs found in the US.

Face it - much of the US is made up of urban sprawl. Until the recent gas price hike, we have had no need for smaller vehicles.

Yes, more than likely far more than you, and i think you are full of it ;)

I'm not going to get into this pissing contest, just so you can boost your ego and confirm your anti American viewpoints. The fact is, the transportation systems in most of Europe, Asia, and Latin American could not support the vehicle market makeup we have in the States, thus, making it necessary and convenient to own a smaller vehicle.

If you're making the claim, back it up.

Road planning codes? ;)

I can't see the anti-americanism, but anywho

Well, you are rather daft. I've been all over the World, and I can tell you that American roads tend to be wider in the City and sometimes on the highway. Now, obviously, the older the city the more likely it is to apply. Cities that have been around for centuries tend to have issues preserving the natural geography and buildings, so the roads are a bit more narrow. On the highways in first world countries it is a near wash. The autobahn is pretty similar as the highway in the US. The autostrada as well. Now, go to somewhere like Colombia where the roads are but an afterthought. The rumor is that Bogota's mayor owns a paving company. How else can they explain the millions of potholes that appear overnight? The highways are pretty crappy as well, although there are some that aren't so bad. Needless to say, there are not many big trucks or hummers that don't struggle in concentrated urban areas around the world.

Rather daft? There's a VAST amount of the world you seem to have forgotten :p

The argument that you drive vast SUVs because you have a reasonably low population density doesn't hold, otherwise we'd be driving semi-trailers ;)

I've always felt that the reason Americans tend to drive larger vehicles is because we have (on average) much longer commutes than most of Europe and Asia. We also have much lower fuel taxes, thus making it a lot easier to splurge on that slightly more comfortable, if oversized beast. Public transportation in most parts of America is also a joke, which leads to even more people driving.

Now, getting back to the Swift, I'm not sure it currently meets US safety standards. A lot of vehicles produced and designed outside the US won't meet those safety standards if they weren't designed for the US market. I'm not familiar with the safety codes in other countries, but I do know that the US has the toughest automotive safety standards.

It's kind of cute, but like the rest of most modern cars, it looks like a damn bubble.

BTW: The whole macho paradigm is true, I live here, I see it every day. These people don't need cars this large, but they get them anyway. They have trouble parking them correctly because some of them take up more than once space. They have issues turning when there are two turn lanes, they kind of meander over into the other lane. They have issues doing U turns. And in almost every instance where I've had the misfortune of driving next to or near a person with one of these MONSTER vehicles, they've been assholes who think they own the road. They've got attitude problems, I tells ya!

They don't "fit our country". They're impractical. They're a waste of gasoline, space, and money.

Two words: Hummer H2

Hell, I've been called a fa*ot for owning a small car. Real winner that prick was.

The american macho attitude lives. It really does.

Maybe someone already addressed this issue, but what is actually "swift" about it?

Does the Nissan Skyline look like a metropolis area from a distance? :D
