I'm sick and tired of these refs ruining football. Who's with me?

Edit: Thanks ElFenix for the pix.

Do people forget how much they complained about the regular refs?

They didn't affect the game as much with their idiotic calls; there were idiotic calls, but not as many as they are now, and all the missed calls that should have been.

Football hasn't been this entertaining since they had replacement players...

Yeah, I know right? Let's just arbitrarily call foul on everything, for anything all the while ignoring the stuff you should call. Damn, that is exciting. You never know when a good play is going to get called back.

On second thought, let's fire these refs and get someone out there with a dice with penalties written on different faces. After every play, the dice is rolled and you either advance, get a freebie, or penalized. Now that's what I call excitement.

Yeah, but that was because we didn't have something like this to compare it to. There's a difference between a couple blown calls (which are honestly not nearly as blown as people say, they're obviously biased one way or other) and what we see right now which is simply inability to do the job. I'm not as frustrated as some but I can't deny the current refs have been shockingly awful at times.

Oh please, everyone bitched just as much about the regular refs. It's not like it's going to make your shitty teams any better.

So none of you saw the Vikings/9ers game today? That is the reason we need the real refs back.

for me it isn't the terrible calls and general lack of awareness from the refs, it is the utter lack of control that they have on the game. players and coaches are realizing that they can get away with more than normal.

players are getting chippy, coaches are pulling stunts (SF was a prime example today), and the game is devolving to sandlot football. I don't think I've seen a week where a fight hasn't broken out. I even think I saw a ref get clocked in the head last weekend and a single flag didn't fly. Hoc-ules would have ripped the guy a new a-hole.

the NFL has stood for professionalism all around. Unfortunately now we have a lack of professionalism from the refs and it shows. is it entertaining, yes. Every week something new is going to bubble up and I'm going to watch no matter what. so, queue Russel Crowe in a referee uniform asking us if we aren't entertained. that is what the NFL really stands for entertainment...and a crap ton of money much like hollywood.

also, if someone really does put a zebra suit on Russel Crowe I want credit when it hits reddit.

Ed Hochuli is what I miss most about the ref strike.

Truthfully though, what I think is worse than bad calls is the insane delay of gameplay that some if these call conferences cause. CHI-STL game today stopped for a good five minutes while they conferred on a possible fumble. This was before any call was even made.

I watched the whole thing. Niners didn't play well, but Minnesota got a lot of help from the replacement refs. One that stuck out in my mind was the no-call offensive pass interference from Rudolph pushing off of Whitner to grab his second TD.

Fucking unions

Why are you blaming the unions? The refs aren't on strike...the NFL locked them out.
Blame the league, not the union.

As such...go ahead and send your petition. The NFL doesn't give two shits about the fans. They've proven that numerous times over the years.

I guess no one saw the Lions game today. When the quarterback leaves the pocket, receivers become blockers. You don't call defensive holding. The announcers (on the Titans radio channel) were joking about it - they knew it was a bad call. The announcers on Lions station were livid.

It's not often I hear the announcers call refs stupid.

Pro football is stupid.

What a great contribution to the conversation.

It's only week 3. Obviously we are stuck the the replacements for this year. Its seems that they should get more confident and get a better handle on the rules and game every week. It's not like they are Joe-shmo off the street, at least they have some referring exeperience.

But, as you can see, they do deserve full time paid for a full time job.

A) They do. They get paid close to $100,000-$180,000 a year. And do work around the year meetings, taking tests to make sure they are still good, practice(s) in which they ref other things the NFL allows, etc. They do not only just work those 24 sundays that are scheduled.

B) This isn't a fight over money. The NFL wants to remove the pension plan for a new 401k plan. The refs do not want this, and thus.... The lockout.

Nooo... the refs refused to show up, per the Union's request. They are on strike, and have been since their last contract ended.

Minimum week 5. If no deal by this thursday, week 6 or 7 minimum.

Odds are I bet we go the whole season with these refs, if the coachs and plaeyrs don't take a stand on it.

What is funny though, is looking at most games unbiased, I do not see as many "bad calls' as others do. Sure there have been some HORRIBLE calls, or some Lengthy discussions over the obvious. But not every call is bad, just because it was against a persons team doesn't make it bad.

I think the people who are really complaining about the refs the most are people's who's team is losing. I could even jump on the band wagon with the Steelers and Raiders. You look at that game and the Steelers get called for 10 penalties to raiders 3. We got some shitty calls that killed drives but I'm not going to blame the refs for real the problem of how shitty the Steelers defense is.

Everyone is just going to blame the refs when their team loses. So easy to do because of the replacement refs. Last year everyone was blaming refs just as much suck it and admit your team sucks.

they are getting alot of flack for calling too many penalties, but lets be honest, the regular refs let alot of PI and holds go all the damn time
