Hint: Get a POS $40< case and call it within Budget.

If I bought a $40 case, I'd still need a $60-$70 power supply (not using a cheapo PSU, ever). The Sonata II is great for this reason.

Ah, good point.

Perhaps go with a 6800Ultra for now, add another 1gb ram(2x1gb sticks). Or, just hold off a bit on the 7800 for some price drops.

Why would I get rid of the 7800GTX (performance+++++) to buy the 6800 Ultra (perf-----) and then get an extra gig of RAM (performance+)??

I think I'm just going to get a 3000+ or 3200+, some TCCD and an xp-90 and call it a day. I'll buy a dual core down the road when I have some extra cash.

Does the 3000+ have the same ceiling as the 3200+? I'm might go with the 3200+ just incase my mobo+ram can't hit 300FSB. The multiplier might help in that situation.

How high can I except to go with the 3000+? 2.7ghz?

Not sure how high you can go, I hear 2.6ghz mentioned a lot though. That isn't a bad idea though, certainly gets you within budget.

Why do you need NCQ on the hard drive? It's not like you'll get a noticable performance increase... You could always reduce the hard drive to a smaller capacity drive, that can save some money...

Yeah, I will. I'm often running multiple instances (2-5) of quickpar at a time but my TWO hard drives bottleneck even when on different channels. NCQ helps out a lot in situations like this.

No, I can afford it. I'm just trying to save money without making too many sacrifices. If I get the X2, I'll have to get value ram which will keep me back from OCing and the Sonata II which I really don't want.

Have you looked at any of the overclocking results on this forum?? Value ram will not hold you back at all if you use dividers, and at the same time will give you almost no loss of performance..

You will have to try very hard to convince me that there is no difference between 200FSB and 300FSB. Look at winrar. At 200FSB people get around 400Mbps or 400Mb/s. I don't remember which. The guys with 300FSB can hit 650-700MB/s or Mbps. That's a phenomenal difference.

I will denounce my above comment and buy the Value Ram if you have graphs or test results which prove otherwise.

Winrar in KB/s
PC2300 - 3-3-3 1T- 496
PC3000 - 3-3-3 1T- 564
PC3000 - 2-2-2 1T- 636
PC4700 - 3-4-3 1T- 651
PC3800 - 2.5-2-2-1T - 703!!!
Here we see pretty signifigant gains due to bandwidth 41% diff top to bottom. This test obviously is very beneficial to have bandwidth or LL. Update: Crucial Ballistix owning all, Winrar seems the like LL even more than bandwidth. We sorta saw this already by the very close scores of PC3000 LL VS PC4700 high bandwitdh.

That's important to me. I use quickpar and winrar more than any other programs.
