Update 1: Chopped Off Case, Power Supply and Motherboard; saved $146

$120.00 - Antec Sonata II
$139.00 - DFI Lanparty UT NF4 Ultra-D
$575.00 - Athlon 64 X2 4200+
$599.99 - eVGA GeForce 7800GTX
$079.99 - Corsair Value Ram 1GB (512*2)
$117.00 - Samsung Spinpoint 160gb SATA-II w/ NCQ
_____________

$1629

Original: I would like to shave some money off of this system, maybe $200 or so. Help me downgrade without losing too much performance.

$139.99 - Antec P180
$071.99 - Antec Truepower 2.0 430W
$195.99 - Asus A8N-SLI Premium
$575.00 - Athlon 64 X2 4200+
$599.99 - eVGA GeForce 7800GTX
$079.99 - Corsair Value Ram 1GB (512*2)
$117.00 - Samsung Spinpoint 160gb SATA-II w/ NCQ
________

$1775

Here are my only requirements:

- Do not change processor. I have my eyes set on the 4200+.

- Do not change video card. I won't buy any other card.

- I must have 1gb (512*2) of RAM.

- I must have an ATX 2.0 power supply with at least 30A on the two 12v rails combined.

- I don't care about hard drive size but it must have NCQ and at least a 3 year warranty.

- The case must not be ugly or ricey. Decent cooling is a must.

Well if you aren't running SLI, you certainly don't need a $200 SLI motherboard..you can shave off some money there. Other than that the only thing I can see you spending less on is the case, but I don't know what you consider ugly, so can't really make any recomendations there.

You could probably get a bit over $100 saved by not getting an SLI motherboard and finding a more affordable case in the $80 range (no idea what you want, so just do a search at Newegg with your price bracket selected appropriately. Unfortunately, if you must save at least $200, you're going to have to make more compromises, or just set the darn thing on a bench and go without the case for a month or two. You're being too picky at this point IMHO, and you're going to end up with a few killer components and a few totally crappy components as well.

I chose that mobo for the heatpiped Northbridge. What is a good Ultra board that would allow be to switch out the heatsink? The current Neo4 northbridge blocks my PCI-E 16x slot.

I'm getting my prices from Zipzoomfly. I have to order the system there. That's the only places that accepts Int'l credit cards.

I currently have the 6800GT. The 7800GTX:

-is the only card out that supports the hardware accelerated Longhorn GUI

-has transparent(?) AA

-has great shader performance

-kills the 6800GT

-beats SLI'd 6800GTs

-actually runs new games maxed out

I bought my 6800GT very late in the game. This 7800GTX will only widen the gap within the coming months.

CASE:
What about the Antec P160 or Antec Super lan boy? Also, since you like the antec case and PSU, try looking for them as a bundle - This could save you some money.

MoBo:
Im not sure what the difference is between the deluxe and the premium, but if the deluxe is cheaper, maybe it would be a better choice. I'm happy with my deluxe.

Here's a suggestion: What are you doing with your current rig? Could you use the Video Card/CPU that you already have for now, and upgrade to a 7800gtx/4200+ in a few months time, when you have more money/when it's cheaper...

I'm selling my computer for $1400 and buying a new one. Trying to get as close to $1400 as possible on this new config.

I'm almost at my goal for $200 saved. Can we shave another $50 skrilla so the system can soon s s s-word s-word?

I know you say not to change the CPU, but the 4400+ would be much better with the extra cache and it really isn't that much more.

Just make a choice between "Show" and "Go"

Hint: Get a POS $40< case and call it within Budget.

If I bought a $40 case, I'd still need a $60-$70 power supply (not using a cheapo PSU, ever). The Sonata II is great for this reason.

How does your 4400+ perform when extracting multiple archives at once? Does the hard drive bottleneck it? How about the RAM?

Oh my, with your blatant and purposeful misuse of the English language, combined with your "attitude" and thoughtlessly demanding way of asking for things, it's a wonder you get any help at all. I'm sorry I posted anything in this thread to begin with. Good luck.

Ah, good point.

Perhaps go with a 6800Ultra for now, add another 1gb ram(2x1gb sticks). Or, just hold off a bit on the 7800 for some price drops.
