im a pie fan also, cakes are usually too... cakey for me. ive tried the dinner cakes as well, but they dont top a specialty pie. breakfast pies rock, as do meat pies. turkey pot is still one of my favest pies.

Here's the way I look at it.

Cakes:

You can eat cake, anytime of the day.
Cakes don't go bad as quickly as pies.
There are infinitely more available flavors, recipes and style of cakes than pies.
Cakes are everywhere, people use cakes in virtually every occasions. From weddings, to birthdays, to just having a cake and eat it too. You don't hear "... have your pie and eat it too..." do you? HUH?
Hollywood stardom? You got it! Cakes were featured in many more movies, and the ratio of cakes to pies are just too large to count.

So, whenever I feel like something sweet, I can always have a cake. I don't need to bake any pies, messing with pans, and stuffs. Cakes are always available, from everywhere.

Cakes >>>>> Pies.
