Decided to do a processor comparison for my end of year statistics project. I will be comparing AMD's current market share in the consumer desktop vs the market share with a more knowledgable computer user(here)

1. How many of each processor do you own(AMD, Intel, other(please name))?

2. Your age group (Under 21, or 21 and over)

3. Due to past experiences with processors, your next cpu purchase will likely be a (AMD/Intel/other).

I will post my analysis of the data when I have crunched it.

Thanks in advance.

1) 1 amd 1.2 ghz
2) 21 and over
3) Intel I am fed up with the counter-strike amd/sound blaster problem (game locks frequently) and plan on buying neither amd nor sound blaster next time, I also seem to have more problems than when I had a p3 600, so I'm going to try intel again.

1) 1- AMD Athlon XP, 1- Intel Celeron 300a, 1- Intel 200mmx

2) 21+

3) My next purchase will be AMD based on Price vs. Performance. There is nothing wrong with Intel processors other than their price.

  • 1. How many of each processor do you own(AMD, Intel, other(please name))?
    • Four Intels being used.
Two Intel, fully functioning systems, sitting idle.

    2. Your age group (Under 21, or 21 and over)
    • Way over

    3. Due to past experiences with processors, your next cpu purchase will likely be a (AMD/Intel/other).
    • Intel
I'll always be using Intel chipsets, so it stands to reason I'll be going with Intel CPUs. My processors are handed down from one machine to another, so again, throwing an AMD into the mix would suck. I never buy top end CPUs, so the price difference between Intel and AMD isn't much, especially if you factor in exotic, noisy, heatsink/fan combos for overclocking the AMDs.

Edit: Are you, by any chance, going to mention in your report, that neither Dell nor Gateway use AMD pocessors in their current line of computers? If so, are you going to hazard a guess as to why this is?

4 AMDs, laptop 450Mhtz, desktops 1Ghtz, 1.4 Ghtz Tbird, 1700 Athlon XP+ running @2.1Ghtz.

2 Intel, 233PII laptop, 400 Mhtz PII Desktop.

Age: 61 :clock:

Pretty sure all my future purchases will be AMD.

1. An Intel P3 500 and a laptop with an Intel P4M 1.6 ghz
2. Under 21
3. Probably would buy AMD though since price/performance wise they are slightly ahead.

1. 3 durons, 3 athlon xps (1600, 1800, 2000+), 1 celeron 2.2ghz, 1 celleron 1.8, and a p4 2.4b

2. under 21

3. intel. the temperatures are just lower than AMDs.

I find it amazing that people can state for a fact what their future CPU purchases will be...it isn't like we are talking about something that lasts like fine china or silverware here, we are talking about technology that changes very rapidly...what if AMD dumps and their product stinks in a year, will those who say they will always buy AMD continue to do so?? same for Intel??...makes no sense to be loyal to something when there is constant change and upgrading is always a factor...if we planned on having two of three pcs for our entire lifetime then sure whatever, but many here change their setups more often than they change their underwear.

Yes, I will mention how 2 of the largest consumer pc producers are Intel only, one because Michael Dell did not want to contaminate his line with AMD chips and Gateway tried it for awhile, not really sure why they dropped them though. Compaq still makes them and Micron used to, not sure if they still are or still in business for that matter...

3. AMD

The only reason I upgraded my rig to intel was because of that 175 dollar deal they had. Can't beat that. Next chip is going to be an Athlon 64 or a Barton with the nforce2 motherboard.
