he Phalanx Close-In Weapon System (CIWS) is an anti-Anti-ship missile system that was designed and manufactured by the General Dynamics Corporation, Pomona Division. It is now manufactured by the Raytheon Company. It is used by the United States Navy on every class of surface combat ship and by the United States Coast Guard aboard its Hamilton and Legend class cutters. It is also used by navies of 23 allied nations. Because of their distinctive barrel-shaped radome and their automated nature of operation, Phalanx CIWS units are sometimes nicknamed R2-D2s in the US Navy, after the famous droid from Star Wars,[1] and as Daleks in the British Royal Navy, after the aliens from Doctor Who. The land based C-RAM has been recently deployed in a short range missile defense role to shoot down incoming rockets and artillery fire.

Hate the name but it is the most badass ship on the planet:

U.S.S. George H.W. Bush (CVN-77)

Well Bush was th youngest naval aviator in world war 2. Not to mention being shot down.
And under rated as a President.

His work in bringing the world together for Gulf War 1 was amazing. And the economic slow down was not really his fault. After the longest non-war economic expansion in history the economy had to slow down eventually.

I bet Bush Sr.'s approval rating has taken a hit in recent years just because of the Bush name.

But I was too young at the time to know what he was like as a president, so I can't really comment.

youtube has no good vids but for my money it doesn't get better than the vulcan cannon, with a rate of fire so high there's no indescernible firing rate, it just sounds like an unmuffled motorbike.

:)

I think they keep 6-8 of those on battleships these days. You'e just not going to penetrate that wall of lead.

the Dutch designed goalkeeper is even cooler. Is uses the 30 mm cannon used in the A-10.

Like his son, Bush Sr. is another fascist war criminal, just much, much smarter.

Friends of mine shot down the US F-117 Stealth in Serbia near the town of Zajecar. I guess they did not know it was stealthy?

;)

I remember that. Stealthy can't beat luck and line of sight fire. Wasn't he flying too low?

I don't remember the details but I recall the mission profile was screwed up and the pilot was too low, hence the lucky shot. Others who know better feel free to correct my memory.

X3 for offensive weapon

Although the SR-71 Blackbird is my favorite aircraft. You know you are badass when you can outrun missiles, fly high enough and fast enough that you can see the sun rise and set 3x in one mission, and fly over super-hostile regions with little chance of being shot down. To top it all off it's a beautiful plane.
