I always thought that the distance between your speakers should be equal to the distance from the speakers to where you generally sit, but i could be wrong.

That 60 degree placement is ideal only for music.

For theater, the prefered angle is closer to 45 degrees.

Dolby Home Theater Setup Guide (see page 9)

Just as importantly, you want the tweeters of the front 3 speakers to be at the same height (ideally ear height, but that's not possible with most display devices). As a compromise, you can set the left and right at ear height, and place the center above (or below) the display device and aim it at the viewer.

A 15' x 15' does provide for some placement challenges because of reflections. Square rooms tend to be the most difficult. Floyd E. Toole (VP Acoustical Engineering for Harman International) wrote some pretty good white papers about it. Thankfully, they're very straight forward and easy to understand. Not too technical. They're a good quick read:

OMG... Are HDTVs that affordable in US?????
We went to Best Buy about 1/2 hour before they closed. They were selling mine as a display model. It was orginally $2,499.99 and they were asking $1,699.99 Ha! If you look closely at the pic, on the bottom right hand side, you will find a tiny dimed sized hole in the speaker covering. Everything works perfectly.

We offered the kid $1,000.00 cash, and he went red faced. We asked for a manager. We offered him $1,000.00 cash and he said ok, if I took the 4yr. warranty for $300.00, which I would have anyway. He asked if I needed a DVD player and I took one of those, open box for $70.00 (originally $249.99) and he covered that under the warranty, too.

New, they are around what I paid then.
🙂

Wow... I guess you "ripped the shop off" in this case 🙂 Good deal 🙂

I should have asked "are LCD/plasma TVs that affordable in US?" instead 🙂

Apex,

If you don't mind me asking, what do you do for a living? Are you married or not? If yes, you are lucky to have a wife that is cool with all that sutff 🙂

As a side note, you are my justification for hard work 🙂

I do gotapex.com. 🙂

Most of the stuff I have I either do not pay for, or get for a HIGHLY discounted price. I don't think I would have gotten them otherwise.

For instance, my rear speakers are Aurum Cantus Leisure 2 SE monitors. Aurum Cantus makes speakers for Red Rose Music (one of Mark Levinson's companies). Their basic music speaker is the Rosebud II:

http://www.redrosemusic.com/rosebud.shtml

It sells for $3500 per pair. It uses a high end ribbon tweeter, the Aurum G2. It's used in a bunch of pretty high end speakers.

Aurum Cantus made a higher end one, with slanted, real wood sides (reduces reflections), a much improved driver, and a better crossover:

Got them for $460 per pair as part of a group purchase.

In terms of the projectors, most of the 10 I've had in the last 3 years have been used. It's not hard to buy a used one for a good price and sell it for as much or a bit more later. Makes using a projector very attractive, compared with most TV's.

Yes, I'm married. She's cool with most of the stuff, though the new sub, with the four 12" high excursion drivers and 2500w is pushing her limits.

The current projector I have is the Dukane version of the JVC DLA-SX21u (with Jerry Bruckheimer has, or probably HAD now, in his home screening room). Only difference is a 5 year warranty on the Dukane, compared to a 3-year on the JVC. Will probably upgrade though... 🙂
