I think a more interesting question to ask is what effect would discovering intelligent life would have on earth religions. Since they would, undoubtedly have their own religions that are "untouched" by what many perceive to be the one true god, could they still justify that their god was the only or correct god? On the flip side, what if the aliens were christian/muslim/hindu etc, would the non believers be proven wrong?

Basically, IF the aliens believed in God, would they kill us for not believing in their God?

Not if we invade their planet, take all their shit, and enslave them first ( under the guise of 'our god told us to' or 'for his glory' or some shit like that ).

Amazing how arrogant we are as a species to assume we're "intelligent." Sure, we're more intelligent than the aardvarks, anchovies, dogs, cats, etc., but I think that in the overall scheme of things, our civilization has progressed on a 1 to 10 scale to about a 1.1

So, if there's intelligent life out there, I doubt they do. And, I think they'd pretty much ignore us, just as we most of the bugs living in our lawns.

All these threads just show how poor the teaching of science is in America.

Do you people even realize how different the entire biosphere would look if the mars-sized planet never crashed into early earth, forming the moon? You realize the moon is really just the coalesced debris of that collision, right? Earth has a double-core, absorbing the heavy metals of the impacting planet. Without the moon, we probably would have never evolved. The drag of the moon upon the tides created the conditions for intertidal zones. Without these great intertidal zones, it is unlikely the evolution from sea to earth would have occured so rapidly.

So before you start thinking about how intelligent life on other planets might think, stop and think about all the variables that allowed US to evolve and think. Then your picture of what intelligent life might look like might change.

Yep, when they get annoying or damage our lawns, we do. We don't think much of them though - that's my point. And, a far more advanced civilization probably wouldn't give us the time of day.
